Last Friday night we went to EMH at MK. In order to get our wristband, we had to give our room key to the cm. The CM scanned our pass into a little hand held machine. He told me it showed him my name, resort, and dates of stay. Then we proceeded to a different CM to get our wristband. Then on Sunday night we did MK EMH again. This time we arrived late, 11pm, the CM looked at our pass and handed out the wristband. I mentioned about the scanner, and she said, "not tonight."

We did EMH at MK on a Wednesday night in October and they were scanning everybody's park pass then another CM would do the bracelets. I guess they do that when it is really crowded? The night we were there was the only night that week that Spectro was running and things were crazy.

This is how they did it on our last visit as well.

One could only guess that if you have an AP you would still have to show your room key???

I'm sure scanning tix makes it easier for parents of small kids. If they scan the tix then you don't need to carry extra room keys into the park. Makes sense to me.

Without starting a new thread, can someone enlighten me on how the evening EMH works. Do they empty out the park, and then you show your resort ticket to re-enter or? :confused3
I can see theat the early EMH would be easy, because the park isen't open yet. Yeah, I'm still learning, but I hope to be a expert DISer some day! :goodvibes

We were there last week and the CM told us that only people with wristbands get to ride the rides after hours. However, if you don't have a wristband but want to stay there and eat, shop, whatever, you can.

I saw a couple of wrist-band abuses while I was there. The people in front of us got in line because they saw everyone getting these wrist-bands. When they asked what they were for, I told them. The lady got TICKED that people from off-property were not eligilbe and she just told the CM that her husband had all their tickets. At first the CM wasn't buying it and then after she continued making a scene, he let her through. Not only that, she got wristbands for her entire family of 8--you are only supposed to be able to get the one for yourself and each member of your party is supposed to go up separately to get theirs. This was a night they were using the scanner too. When I exited, she was WAITING for me and said "see, you're not so special--off site guests get them too!" Obviously she was a jerk and I just went on my way. Unfortunately those types of people are everywhere.

They always scan your room keys....however, maybe the scanners were not working properly the second night you went. They have to have proof that you are staying in a resort in order to give you a bracelet.

You guys are talking about them scanning your park pass....what if you don't get your park pass at the park, but like the Disney Store or online...?

They scan your ROOM KEYS, not park passes. In most cases this is the same thing if you have a KTTW card.

This is to prove that you're staying onsite.

Here's how EMH works for all parks.

Look up the POSTED open and close times for any day, any park.
Only WDW resort guests staying on-property will be allowed EHM privileges and it COSTS NOTHING EXTRA to attend the EMHs.
There are slightly different situations for MORNING and EVENING EMH's.

-------MORNING EMH FACTS--------------------------------------
If it is a MORNING EMH, then WDW resort guests staying on-property will be allowed entry to THAT park on THAT day starting ONE HOUR before the posted opening time.
At least ONE person in your party should have a room key-card with them (sometimes EACH person needs to show one) to verify your current hotel status and gain entry.
So, only WDW resort guests will be ALLOWED INTO the park.
Once inside, only selected attractions will be open.
See the official WDW website for the latest attractions that will be open during EMH.

-------EVENING EMH FACTS--------------------------------------
If it is a EVENING EMH, then WDW resort guests staying on-property will be allowed to stay and ride attractions at THAT park on THAT day for THREE HOURS after the posted closing time.
You do NOT have to be in the park BEFORE scheduled closing time.
You CAN enter the park at any time during EMH and still get a wrist-band.
You can leave and re-enter the park at will (just like any normal time).

(So, YES, if MK is sched. to close at midnight, the EMH will run til 3AM! Yep, that's 3 in the morning. No, its not a mistake, that would be 3 full hours after the posted time. 3AM for a posted 12mid close-time. 3AM, yes sir!)

EACH guest (except for very small children) will need to show a room key-card to a CM at special "EMH kiosks" set up in various locations throughout the park, and a wristband will be snapped on by the CM to each adult and child. Children older the 3 will be issued a room key when you check in if they are listed on your ressie. If they are not listed you will have problems if they don't get issued a room key.Children older than 3 years will be issued a room key when you check in. Make SURE the check-in desk issues each one a room-card.
The ride CMs will check these at each attraction before allowing guests to enter the queue.
So, even though non-resort guests may still be INSIDE the park, only those with wrist-bands will be allowed to ride any open EMH attractions.
See the official WDW website for the latest attractions that will be open during EMH.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
You can enter the parks for EMH EVENINGS anytime... during "regular" hours, or even during the actual extended EMH hours.
This 1-hour morning EMH and 3-hour evening EMH rule applies at all 4 parks. Enjoy!

We were told that people can still walk around the park without a wristband (example off site guests). We definately saw them checking every person entering an attraction for their wristband. If they didn't have the wristband on, they were not allowed on/in the attraction.

As for the off-site guest mentioned above, I hope she's on the boards and....SHAME ON YOU!! :furious:

Yes that is true.

But is not the PARK TICKET that they care about for the wrist bands (although, OF COURSE you NEED a park ticket to get INTO the park at ANY time.)

Its the ROOM KEY-CARD that gets you a wrist-band.
ALL persons (over the age of two) in your party must have a room key (and the WDW resorts DO issue them for children when you check in).
Except for babies (who don't need ANY kind of ticket to be in the park with their parents), everyone who gets a wrist-band must be able to produce a room key-card (the parents can, of course, hold onto the children's cards for them).

If the CM's DO use the scanners (many times they do, sometimes they don't) they record each room-key's scan into the computer system so that each key-card can only be used ONCE that evening (So you can't just "hand if off" to a non-resort guest.)

If they DON'T use the scanners, they DO check to see if each person has a room-key at least.

Its actually a very good system.

lovethattink - how crowded was EMH last Sunday night? We're thinking of going next sunday night, it starts at 11PM and don't know how long we'll be able to stay before we conk out - wondering if it will be worth it crowd/line wise? :smooth:

But if they were here, they would have known about it already. People like her, who complain until they get what they want, annoy me. :sad2:

Robo- Thanks tons. You completely answerd all my questions! I know we'll be trying this out this trip.
As for those people who take advantage....I believe in Karma! It all comes back to you. :p

It was very crowded until around 12:30. We watched the 11pm parade. Then we got our wristbands from Guest relations. (They had an area set up where the tours usually meet.) From there we headed to Buzz Lightyear where we waited about 20 minutes. Then we went to Dumbo and waited about 45 minutes. From there we went to Adventure's of Winnie the Pooh where we waited about 15 min. From there were went to small world where we walked right on the ride. Then headed over to Adventureland to ride the magic carpets and walked right on it. Now it was around 1pm and we could walk right on everything. We rode Buzz again and they permitted us to stay on to ride again! Bye the way I got over 795,000 on Buzz!

I would just like to point out that not even the Cm's get EMH privleges.

And I posted the 3AM EMH time info that way because of the HUGE number of questioners that say, "I know that the MK would not stay open until 3 AM, so what is the real EMH closing time?"

:thumbsup2
