From today's Marathon Chat

Paul (Albuquerque, NM): With both the marathon and the January half marathon starting at 5:40 am now, does that mean we will have wave starts for both the half marathon and the full marathon?

Stacy: Paul, There will be waves for the half and full marathons this year. More details will be posted online next week

Sounds like we can throw out any notion of what we think the start will be like....until next week.

They talked about them doing it last year after 22k in 2010. Plus add a 5:40 am start. Busses start at 2:30 am. No use sleeping ;-)

Earlier the better for me, since I will be finishing near the back of the pack, less time out in that Florida sun.

Robert, any idea when disney is going to release corral info?

5:40 am. :lmao: I'll never complain about 7 am race starts again. (ok, I will, but not for a couple of months at least).

That's 2:40am for us west coasters! :faint:

I'm glad we are getting there early enough to (hopefully:scratchin) adjust our internal clocks.

Disney posted in program that there is a Blue and Red Course for Wave 1(5:40) but only a Red Course Wave 2(5:50) & 3(6:00).

5 Waves for the Half:eek: 40 minutes from 1st wave and wave 5 !

I honestly do not understand the Full wave sytem. They had the opportunity to FIX the merge point and have frankly left it broken. Wave 1 is the Blue side (AB&C) and the DE&F corrals from Red.

The merge point is already a single track race once G rolls around so they really have not fixed a thing at mile 3.3 Nor have they really fixed the mile 5-6 stretch. Possibly the G folks will not have to slow as much at the mile 5 point but I think they will catch the first wave there.

They can still salvage the wave by holding the red for 5 minutes while AB&C clear the start line. All I can think of here is that they alternately stacked the first three corrals as they did in 07. (In order of projected finish times they ordered the corrals A, D, B, F, C, & G) Boy did that work well! I was in front of the 4:15 pace group while maintaining a 5+ hour pace at the merge point.

Look for further changes in the Full start January 9, 2011 You heard it here first!

Off soap box now.

Yes, the waves are always a work in progress. Just wait until they allow 30,000 in the Half next year! Wave 1 will start at 5:00. :scared1:

If all goes well I will be hedding back up world drive when the last person starts!!!

Last year I know there was a list of waves/corrals and bib numbers so you knew in advance where you would be starting...

I haven't found it listed anywhere this year...is there a list anywhere?

TIA

There was a 'leaked' list last year. It does not appear that one is forthcoming this year.
