Ok, then here's another one......Nancy and me with Norm, John and my daughter, Jen after the V&A wine tasting dinner. We were just getting in an early practice for the TofT after-party. Needless to say, a good time was had by all!

Good job to all the racewalkers....I really need to give that a try.

You don't have to only racewalk to have a great time at distance. I powerwalked the WDW 96 marathon in 5:09 and a 50 mile race in 10:32. Race walking is a great way to increase speed but you don't have to do it to have a fast walking time. Do what works for you:thumbsup2

Don't listen to him, the only reason he went so fast was that they forgot to put out the Pota Potties and we all know Robert is full of poop.

Seriously I haven't figured out how Robert walks fast. I really don't think he naturally occurs in nature.:hyper:

For everyone :moped: today have a save trip, and watch out for the ::cop: My icon's changed, can you tell?

I've off to walk soon, the gym is closed for the holiday so it will just be walk, stretch then mowing the yard. If the rain holds off. We have spotty showers predicted for today.

Have a super holiday y'all.

Thanks Robert (and Panda). It's easier for guys to walk faster - you are taller. I am only 5' tall and I feel I can only get so fast with regular or power walking. So, I'm going to keep giving race walking a try. Tracy - until I get my speed up, not sure if I even want to sign up for a 1/2. I may just wait to see how I do at the ToT and if I do well, I may sign up for the Princess 1/2. We'll see. :cool1:

Debbie when I went to the National Senior Olympics, we were all (a couple of hundred of us, men and women) warming up waiting for the 1500 m finals to start. A tiny woman from Califorina came into the track area. She was dressed is an electric white track suit split up the sides to mid thigh, a short jacket that showed her tight abs. She was every bit of 5' tall and maybe 90 pounds. She had a scarf tied around her head, (like a Rambo style sweatband). She struted in with a confidence like she owned the place. Then went off to her self to warm up.

When the "Women 60 to 64" were called for their race, she came up to the start. The gun fired and she was soon leaving the rest of the racers behind. This is significant since the people in these races were the best senior athletes in the nation and some the best in the world. She was pure grace and power, by the half a silence had come over the stadium, we were all realizing that we were seeing something special. When she crossed the finish she did own that race, she had just set a new world record.

Oh Debbie, Debbie...what are we going to do with you??? :confused3 You can do it. The WDW Half's have a 16 min mile minimum and some people go a bit beyond that. That is slower than the Minnie. You are already getting faster. I started training for my first half (which was at WDW) 16 weeks before it. You just need to believe in yourself like all of us do and you'll get there. I completed that first Half in 3hour17min and ?secs. that was just over a 15 min mile. SO, you see, it can be done and there were at least 150 people behind me (or maybe more). I just don't think you are giving yourself enough credit. I think you could get ready for the Jan Half or, if not, for sure you should be ready for the Princess Half!! If just takes getting the miles in on a consistant basis.::yes::

I did a local 5K today - see my RReport on that thread. It had MOSTLY runners and a very few racewalkers and some walkers. I finished in 41min6seconds. My garmin said I actually did 3.15 miles - Oh well. It was the best showing in a local 5K that was not a judged racewalk.

Panda I like the new Panda on your siggy!!:thumbsup2

Ok. If I did my mileage remembering correctly, I just did a 4.5 mile walk in 60 minutes. We had dinner with my parents for the holiday and I told DW that I was going to walk home. I got on the road and started "hoofing" it and I got home before she has even left. Legs feel good and I feel good. I am just sitting down enjoying some ice cold water. By the way, the 4.5 mile per hour pace is a PR. So I guess I am very happy right now. Anyway, I just thought I would share.

That is super, you are really improving, that pace is 13:20 min per mile.:thumbsup2

Bubba: wow!! that's a good walk - better than my racewalk championship pace , 13:20. :worship: Good for you, looks like your coming along just great!!

Tracy

Now remember, I need to double check the actual mileage. I am pretty sure that it was 4.5 but I could have been wrong and it could have only been 3.5. I will check and let you know soon.

Bryan

Bryan - That's terrific. There are times when everything just feels right :goodvibes , sounds like you had one of those moments. You ARE a fast walker!!!

Debbie - Hey...I've been gone a couple of days, so just read the latest posts. I met you at the Minnie (very enjoyable). Please sign up for the Princess 1/2. It will also be my first half and I would love to see you again and cheer you on. You CAN do it! Remember, it's not how fast you do it, just enjoy the journey. :goodvibes

Hey Tracy - You are Rockin' girl. So many events, I don't know how you do it!

Bryan, did the tips I sent you help?

Walking Panda:hippie:

Sharing Panda The tips did help when I was able to use them. When I had a pretty flat surface to walk on, I felt like I could generate more speed by following some of your guidelines. When I was off in the ditch, to avoid oncoming cars, I was just trying to stay upright and keep my speed as consistant as I could.

One of the things you told me was that I should basically be walking a straight line. That is very difficult for me. I have no equilibrium due to the fact that I am deaf in one ear. I could get pulled over by the cops and fail the field sobriety test because of it. Of course, with the breath test, I would pass it since I don't drink at all. This is the same reason that I can't ride a bike or swim or rollerskate. (I am truly missing out on some of the joys of life but I make my own joys with what I can do.)

I am going to double check the mileage tonight and I will let you know for sure what the distance was.

Thanks for all of the support and kind words.
Bryan

My first Half Marathon (DL last year) I finished in 3 hours 29 minutes and 56 seconds, with 4 seconds to spare! I do know of several others who finished in a longer time who did get medals!

Ok, it's all Tracy and SamSam's fault. Because of their words of encouragement, I just signed up for the Princess 1/2 and the Princess 5K. So, now I have something else to work towards. I have the ToT in October first, then the Princess next March. Sounds good to me! Thanks for all the encouraging words everyone!! :yay:

Debbie: Glad I could add to your "Bling, Bling" collection. Anytime you need alittle push (or kick in the butt) just let me know!!! :rotfl:

It took me a while but I found the website and the team. My name is Amy and I met some of you at the Minnie 5k. I was by myself and yrou group was nice enough to walk with me for while. I was able to finish in under 50 minutes which I thought was pretty good for my first race. I want to inprovem my time and do the Race for the Taste next and then go from there. I was hoping I would get to know other people doing these races and maybe learn a little more about training.

I live in a suburb of orlanda so I do not have to travel to go to these events. I look foward to getting to know you all.

Amy

Yeah! We get to crash at Amy's and save on hotel costs.

Oh ... sorry. That was a little impetuous as we have yet to "meet" you.

Welcome to the WISH Walkers.
