New Walker's Sharing Ideas

Hello Nancy, Jeanne, Denise and all the rest of the pretty princesses, and guys.

Denise the WISH shirts are so bright because our princesses glow. Seeing one of those bright safety lime shirts in a long race is a big motivator for us. When we did the Goofy in January and Erica was having so many problems, we used Nancy and Jeanne who were ahead of us as a goal. If we could just catch up to them.

Jeanne glad your little one is ok. Car crashes scare me, it's so easy to lose everything that is important to you in a heart beat.

I won't comment on the girls not fitting in an extra large shirt. Nope ain't going there.:)

Today was a rest day except for a couple of hours of yard work. I had an awesome walk on thursday so I think a rest is needed anyway. Most of the time I have been injured I can look back and find the day I should have rested instead of going.

Have a wonderfull Evening y'all.

Nancy, thanks for the help, if I can't get one from EYE2EYE I sure would love to wear a WISH team shirt for the 15K. I'm sure we can make arrangements. The only things I have definately planned are getting there early Friday morning, ADR at Sci-FI Friday at 11am,going to pick up my stuff Friday sometime and the wish meet on SAT at 4:30pm.
Thanks again for your consideration. ;)

Hi everyone. What are the "gels" that everyone is talking about, and where do I buy them?? Also, what is body glide and where do I buy that? Thank you.

Hi, all. I'm still trying to catch up on everything. It's been such a long week....

PANDA, I'm so glad Erica is doing well after surgery. Take care of your princess!

JEANNE, how scary! Thank goodness your daughter is okay. Car crashes scare me, too.

TRACY, looking forward to seeing you at the Minnie!

NANCY, great long walk you got in! And I agree, it's nicer to walk with signs of spring around. I was getting distracted on my long walk the other day by the buds on the trees!

DEBBIE, sporting goods stores sometimes have the gels, and GNC sells some, too. If you have a store that sells supplements, they usually carry them. You can also get them at Target (although the selection is limited) or at amazon.com. I bought mine at the specialty running store where I was fitted for shoes. Body glide is to prevent "chub rub"--anywhere your body might rub against itself and chafe. I saw some on drugstore.com.

I am worrying that my barely 15-min. mile pace won't be enough for the Minnie, so if anyone has any great ideas on how to spend the next three weeks to get a *little* faster, I'd love to hear it!

Workouts were disrupted this week because of the funeral stuff and kitchen remodeling. In my head, I'm telling myself that spending several hours painting counts as cross-training for strength (in my head, I could hear Mr. Miyagi telling me to paint the fence). I can't wait to have my kitchen back so I can make my own meals again--I had forgotten how not fun it is to have to eat every meal out!

Hope everyone has a great workout week!

Duckie

Thanks for the info on the Gels Duckie. Also, can anyone recommend a good fanny pack? I need one that's small (not bulky) because I have to carry my car keys, money, ID (in case I keal over), gels... Thanks!

Debbie, I bought a SPIbelt on the advice of some WISHers here, and it looks great (haven't done a long with it yet since it only came a couple days ago). With the code WISHD, you can get $5 off. I liked it because it's small but it stretches. :)

Hi Everyone!

It has been quite the week for us -- so forgive my rare postings. I was a sick puppy until Friday, and I'm still recoverying. Tuesday night we got a call that my grandfather had passed away -- he was 92 and had Alzheimer's, so it wasn't a complete shock. Anyway, I couldn't make it back to Missouri for the funeral, so I feel a bit guilty about that. Wednesday night ds came home with a note in his backpack that there was no afterschool Thursday, and an important parent meeting Thursday night. I was still sick, but I agreed to watch a friend's daughter so her husband could go while she was at work. My dh and the other dad came home with the news that the school is closing. They also had sheets from three other local Catholic elementary schools -- with not enough slots for the kids. DH took Friday off and quickly secured ds a slot next year at a fantastic school -- but none of his friends will be going with him. All the kids are heartbroken and distraught. I didn't go to work Wednesday or Thursday because I was sick, so I had to go in Friday. I spent the day trying to get work done, and talking to dh on the phone as he was making arrangements. I had to leave work at 2 so I could tour the potential new school, and I didn't get half of what I needed done. Yesterday was the anniversary of my Mom's passing in 2002.

Honestly, if I didn't have walking, I would be a basket case right now. I did 5.5 miles yesterday, and a half hour today after a stationary bike ride. It all feels very surreal. It's just been too much too quickly. I feel like I need to sleep for a week, but I have a huge deadline at work Friday, so none of that for me. If you don't hear from me much this week, it's 'cause I'm spending my awake time at work or on the TM, or consoling ds.

Debbie -- I'm glad you found a good fannypack. I use one I got as a "return cruiser" gift on Royal Caribbean. It's the perfect size for all my goodies! :thumbsup2

Duckie -- I know you've heard this before, but race day adrenaline will do wonders for your pace! You may have to consciously slow yourself down!:cool1:

DsnyFan -- You are going to love seeing the WISH Green at the Minnie!:yay:

Dave -- So glad to hear Erica is doing well! I know you are taking excellent care of our Panda Controller, and we wish her a speedy recovery! :goodvibes

Nancy -- It sounds like you are in great form. So glad you are enjoying nice weather! :wizard:

Jeanne -- I am so glad your daughter is ok! Nothing is scarier than an injured child, especially when they are grown enough to drive! :scared1: :grouphug:

SamSam -- I wish I couldn't believe someone had the audacity to denigrate your walking -- but that doesn't make it right. You should be proud of your accomplishments! Walking is not strolling when you are in a race, and anyone who had every seen one would know that. The next time someone says something nasty, be sure and let them know your mph! ;)

Margie -- You are always so positive! Thanks for being a shining light! :dance3:

Denise -- If we could put two 70 degree days back-to-back, I think I'd fall over from the shock! :sad2:

Ok, everyone saddle up for a great week!
Maria

Maria: responded to you on the other thread, but sending pixie dust here also.....:pixiedust:

Maria sorry to hear you have had such a difficult week! :flower3:

Erica, going out to dinner...woman you are amazing! Glad you are feeling better - remember we are all eager to hear about your check up tomorrow :goodvibes

We have a rare day of actual sunshine after several days of windy, dark, and dreary rain!

The kids are sick and my body acts like it is way to eager to share the experience with them.

Super Debbie - some of our grocery stores and our WalMart has the GU and several varieties of power bars too.

Hi Margie:flower3: Erica's appointment is tomorrow afternoon. I'll let you know how it goes.

I took her out to get her hair done, and mine trimmed, then we had lunch at Red Lobster. After that she was ready for a nap, after nap she was ready to go again so we saw the new comedy movie, "Run FatBoy Run". Good flick, predictable but good. It's one of those feel good movies.

How is everyone, I haven't been able to check in for a couple of days.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Hi Panda,

Hope Erica's appointment goes well tomorrow. I remember after I had foot surgery (chilectomy) at about the 4th day I went to the movies. I was so bored of "putting my foot up".
I'm getting a hair cut tomorrow also!!
I did a good walk tonight after work - 66 degrees with a strong breeze (did I mention I live in South Florida and its April!!)

Take care all you walkers!!!

Hi Tracy, I live in Southern Ky and spring is wayyyyyyy overdue. It was 28 degrees this morning when I was ready for my workout so I had to do the tready again. Good workout but I really need the fresh air.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Good luck to Erica and hope her foot keeps heeling.

I heard from my Dr's office today that after my xray and blood work they ruled out Gout on my " good leg" or really big toe. It was discovered that I have a lump from a poorly healed fracture of my great toe from over 20 years ago. The lump(that is very painful to walk on) has to be looked at by a podiatrist or ortho Dr. I scheduled to have my knee surgeon look at it next week when he does my 3rd post op. I would have to wait at least 6 more weeks before I could have surgery on my only walkable foot. Unless I want to go into a wheelchair:( The news keeps getting better.

I still have to schedule a ultrasound for a lump elsewhere. When it rains it pours.

PT yesterday was tough and my leg strength is so bad, I can't do a straight leg lift. It doesn't take long for 2 surgeries to remove all my muscle. Back tomorrow and Friday.

Morning walker buds.

I'm having a super pumped up day. I was 167 on the scale, lowest so far and only a few more to go.

I did another complete walking workout this morning, with the highlight being that I walked the last mile in 10:54, and it felt comfortable.

How is everyone doing today?

Walking Panda:hippie:

Robert-- I'm so sorry to hear that you continue to have other medical issues. I hope things soon turn around for the better soon.

Dave---Glad you are taking good care of your princess. Glad to hear that Erica is making progress with her recovery.

Continue to train for the Minnie. So ready for a long weekend at WDW. I just bought my airline tickets for my Oct trip. Every time I checked the price it kept going up so decided to purchase them now even though they were more than I normally pay. I hate to buy so far in advance, but with the rise in gas prices was afraid the price would just keep going up.

It is to be in the high 60's low 70's the next couple of days so will be doing my walking outside.

Nancy

Hi Nancy, you gonna be at ToT princesses? Erica and I registered yesterday. I know Jeanne and John are going she mentioned that earlier in the year.

Any other walkers going to ToT?

Walking Panda:hippie:

I MAY be at the ToT or maybe the Race for the Taste 10K. Both of those weekends are Home football games for the "U" that I have season tickets. I will already be missing the first home game to fly out the CA for the DL Half, so not really sure.

Unsure me.

Dave---We are there the entire week staying at OKW the first part of the week and then BWV for Fri and Sat night, just not sure if we are doing the ToT . Norm can't maintain the 16 minute pace and at this point it has not officially changed on the ToT race registration. So I am undecided what I am doing. We love Party for the Senses and we are going on Sat 10/18, but for the money I will pay for ToT race we could do Party of the Senses again on 10/25 and still get over to HS to see people off for the race. I figure there is no rush to register as I doubt it will fill up like last year. We do plan to do any other WISH events that are planned.

Nancy
