Jeanne-

I'll work on my time and make a decision, then. :)

Is it normal for me to be able to walk much faster on real ground that on that dang treadmill? Tonight was a total stonker (I used a new word!)--I could only maintain 3.5 mph and my calves/shins/ankles were really whiny about it...

Yes the treadbeast sucks for walking fast. Not sure why but it does. I can't walk nearly as well on the beast as on the roads.

Thanks, Panda. I thought it was more proof that I'm a) not at all athletic, and b) not getting any better (although dh says I'm walking very fast).

Duckie: I say sign up and do the race. If you can do the pace, they don't care if you walk, crawl, run, etc. They won't pull you.

Good luck with your training:thumbsup2

Wow! Thanks, Robert! [Mr. Disneyrunning.com wishes me good luck with my training! :goodvibes ]

Oh, and it's official, everyone: I registered myself and DH for the Half in January!

Go Duckie Go!!! Robert and Dave are right :worship:
about pacing yourself and ending up passing "runners"....

Walk Magazine had a shirt that had this printed on the back:

"I may be walking, but I just PASSED you!"

Good Morning!

Yesterday I did a 5K on the TM and finished in 41 and 1/2 minutes. I never went below 4.0 and got up to jogging at 5.5 but only for a little bit. I can't wait to get my book so I can get statred on a training plan.

The race director of the 10-mile race got back to me today. I had emailed him, "Do you welcome walkers? What is the closing time for finishing?"

and he replied, "Negative. We expect all participants to finish the 10 mile in 2.5 hours."

So, even though that seems like a 15-minute mile pace, same as the Minnie, I guess I'm not invited. :(

My experience in a running race as a walker. I was not dead last but pretty close. It was 95 out and I do not do well in the heat. The police who were “guarding” the runners told me and a few others that they could not stay behind walkers. I told them no problem,we were fine. ^%@##@#$&^.

But I also note that because we were so far behind the runners by the time we got to the 2nd water stop, they had almost packed up and by the 4th they were “out” of water. Thanks for nothing!

I now make sure I have my own water and the heck with the rest of them. That being said my times have greatly improved since that race and it is good to be in a race to get the feel of being in a crowd. I have been in other races and we were fine. Believe it or not the police sponsored a “Race for the Fallen” a few months later and it was one of the best races in the city so you just never know.

Good luck

Just popping into say "hi" and to giggle at the term treadbeast! :lmao:

Actually, I've got a question. Have any of you read/tried ChiWalking? I just got through with the ChiRunning book and had decided to try it with my walking. Then I saw the ChiWalking version of the book and wondered if any of you wonderful walkers have any experience with it.

Oh, and I don't know what my experience at the Cleveland 1/2 will be, but I read reports from the walkers (and they have a walker division) that said their port-potties and water stations were being closed down as walkers were still coming through! :scared1: Hopefully this year will be better. (I'm planning a R/W, but we'll see what the knee is planning.)

Have a great day everyone!

Kathy: how can we get WALK magazine? Someone mentioned it about 6 months back. I think they were trying to get a group rate for WISH or something like that, but I never heard any more about it.

Well I'm impressed that the ToT powers have responded to our concerns so quickly.

Robert, I love it when a plan comes together. They have listened to us every time we have voiced a concern, now you just have to keep being our watch dog out there.

Well, I am so far behind with this thread and many others. As Jeanne said we will be coming to ToT. We usually do a week vacation so that we can do F&W and Norm can golf. Waiting for the 7 month so I can book at BWV. I learned my lesson last year so I want a resort I can walk back to at the end and not worry about Disney transportation. Plus we will be close to all the action.

What did I miss about the ToT race?

Pixie Dust to those with injuries.

Nancy

Just got this in my email regarding the 1/2 marathon!!!!!

We received your applications and they have been entered into the system. Your credit
card has been charged and a postcard confirmation has been mailed, one for each of you.
You are both all set.

Thanks,

STeve

So we're in!!! I sent mine from NH to DVC on 2/9/08 and was panicked when we saw they were at 85% so I emailed and called today. Bless you STEVE whoever you are!

Hi Miranda, we will be cheering for you this time since we are just doing the marathon this time. I'm so sorry we didn't get to find you and Denise for after race hugs and comparing stories.

It is funny that I received an email from Steve at EMMI(The Race Management Company for Disney)today, it included an updated DVC Race Application for the Minnie because I had an "out dated one" on my website. Looks like the website isn't a secret any more. They are reading and monitoring it:scared1:

"Steve" must be busy since he's the one that emailed me that they had received my 1/2 marathon registration.
