Thanks, you guys have eased my mind. Now I will have to find something else to worry about:rotfl:

I did the same last year but because of the time of year here in NH I never made it past 6 miles. Too nasty here. I was quite worried about not going further but you know I was very confident in my 6 miles and had done that often and by the time I had done it so often, and was not tired when done, I felt I could go on and on with no problem and I did!

You'll feel strong as you progress and will be just fine!

Speaking of strong, are you still doing good with the stretching to control the neck pain and headache?

I have had a problem with a sore hip flexor for over a month but what ever I did today in the pool finally took care of it. I did some sprinting in the 5'deep end and some stretching for calves and some leg swings and ham and quad stretches.

I worked out for 2 hours today then mowed 1.5 acers with the push mower, my achillies is a bit mad about that. But it was a good workout for the legs and upper body to.

Tired Panda:hippie:

Well, I finally sign up to do another racewalk. Not sure how it will work because I am training for the Minnie 15k and then on Sat May10th is the event.
It is called the RRCA Florida State 10K & 5K Championship Racewalk, however I am entering into the Open Racewalk. I will work on the shorter distance and speed this Thursday and then rest until Sunda's Minnie. Then back to it.

Take care Walkers.

Well I messed up and almost missed my monthly massage - what was I thinking? Miranda and I were suppose to go to the track but it was cold, raining and plain nasty so we were at home when the phone rang about my appt. YIKES:confused3 Off I raced for my appt.

She worked on my knee and arm-the right side which has never been a problem but I am a lefty.

My knee is from not warming up enough and my arm just needs to build muscle since it is so weak. She helped me a lot and I was able to sleep quite nicely last night.

SO, again, slow and steady wins the race, be the TURTLE! My mantra. Well I may not win the race but I'll finish and hopefully be pain free.

Sounds like you had a busy day mowing, working out and still finding time to be nurse Panda. We had to take in all the flowers last night since there was a threat of frost! My flower boxes were "on their own" but the lowest it went was 39. Mark did just leave and have to scrape is windshield.

Well off for another cup of coffee, sewing and then I start the day. I HOPE to end it with PT and then miles at the track.

Tracy, I just read you signature :

I'm a walker but I just passed you.

THAT'S GREAT!!!!

Tracy that's so cool, you can give me some pointers when we get to meet. I've never had a real lesson.

Denise, yes the warm-up is so important when you are working out. I find as I get older that is one of the sacrafices I have to make. The cool down and the stretching is a must also.

Is anyone else tired of the price increases on everything but our paychecks? I wonder where this will all end?

We might have to have some WISH meets a bit closer to home for us Middle and North Easterners. Erica and I go to the Smokies every year for our final LSD in prep for the January Marathon.

Well I'm off to the gym, it's 33 degrees so it's another tready day.

Haven't posted in a while - life keeps getting in the way :goodvibes

Did a 5k at Ohio State on Sunday as my last weekend outing before the Minnie. Felt pretty good and had my 2nd fastest 5k ever. The really interesting part of the race was at the end when they announced the winners.....

We are blessed in that several of our local race organizers offer a Walker category with explicit instructions that you must walk the entire race. Never fails, someone doesn't pay attention to this notice, enters as a walker because they "don't run the whole way" and then places or worse cheats by understanding the category and run/walking anyway.

Happened Sunday, but the guy was busted big time by 2 male members of one of our local walking clubs. My DS and I saw this guy sprint past us with about 1/2 mile to go. We actually commented on him because 1 - he was flying by so fast that my DS commented that he either got started late (this race was chip timed) or he was not part of the race and was just running through campus and 2 - he had on an awful orange shirt that you couldn't miss.

When they announced that this guy was the 2nd place male walker, DS and I were upset, but then noticed the 2 fellows in the walking club jackets strode over to this guy and began a very "animated" conversation with him.

Long story short, the run/walker turned his medal back in and the adjustment was made to the finish order. Glad this was fixed in the end, but I do find it personally frustrating. I don't want to sound like a sore loser, but I have had several races where I have been the "victim" of female run/walkers and have missed out on placing because of it. It is even more frustrating when I am trying to judge my performance against those in the category to determine how I stack up against local walkers. I can't get a true picture with these category jumpers.

I am not the type to be confrontational or agressive as these genetlemen were on Sunday, but I have spoken to the race owners about it. Unfortunately, there is little they can do short of race marshals when folks just aren't honest. Okay, off my soap box now, but any encouragement or suggestions would be appreciated. :surfweb:

Time for pixie dust - I leave for the Minnie at 2 tomorrow afternoon :cloud9:

Hi Fellow Walkers!

So, I did get a 2-mile walk to the subway in last night. I wasn't in my workout garb or anything, but I did fly along. I'm hoping for a nice, long walk tomorrow. DS doesn't have school, so we'll both be home. He gets an extra hour of tv time, and I get a workout. We all win ;)

Kathy -- Wow, I can imagine how frustrated you must have been with that "rwalker". I'm glad it had a happy ending! Have a wonderful time at Minnie! ::MinnieMo

Dave -- It does seem that everything, and I mean everything, is increasing in cost. I'm almost afraid to imagine what our airfare to Orlando is going to be in January :scared1:

Denise -- I love that phrase! "Be the Turtle" -- I am with you! :snail:

Kim -- Our rain stopped :woohoo: Now if I could just convince ds he wants to go for a long walk with Mommy -- in his words, "Not gonna happen". :sad1: DH has Celtics playoff tickets tonight, so I can' slip away at all, and by the time I get him settled, it's just too late for me mentally and physically.

Walk Strong!

yes I am and working with weights on upper body. I try not to take my pills but some days are worse that others and I find a direct link to the pain and my sleepless nights. I am way better than before but continue to work out.

Bought some strength training DVD's and Yoga to work on that and hopefully be a better size and in better shape for Miranda's October wedding.

My knee is still a problem but at least it doesn’t hurt when I walk - not at all so I'm safe there. I would be devastated to have a problem with that.

All goes well otherwise, love the walks and they size of my thighs because of them :dance3: LO!

Good morning dear friends.

Kathy, Denise, Tracy, Maria, Maria, Kim and all the other walkers who stop by. We have a lot of time before the ToT and the marathon weekend so there is plenty of time to build properly.

Just being consistant will only take us so far. We need to slowly and continusly keep added a little more challange all the time. This challange can be in the form of doing hills, walking into the wind on a breezy day or doing sprints of faster walking at various times during your walk.

The core training,(stretching, calistetics and pilaties moves) is really paying off. I feel much stronger and more flexiable than I did 2 months ago. My achillies problem is pretty much under control, healing will take a long time but it's way better. Lots of calve stretching to thank for that.

Did anyone see the 80s movie, "Staying Alive", with John Travolta? There is a seen where he has just made the dance team and when he leaves a friend asks him if he wants to go for a drink and he says no that he just wants to strut. That's what we are going to be doing dear friends, when we do our Marathon and or half marathon this January we will be struting our stuff in our new awesomely strong bodies.

Hi all you walker people!!!!!
I just got back from the Minnie 15K!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for all the exclamation points, but I am kinda excited. I did a really good time today, 9.3 miles (garmin said 9.45miles) in 2hours 11min. I did just under a 14min pace average. I do have to admit to joggin a bit down the hills, but this is not a "Judged" racewalk. I feel so good. All the walkers did very well!! Yeah us!!

** Update** Chip time was 2hr10min54sec. Yeah!!**

I'm off to get some dinner, take care.

Good job on the Minnie, everyone! Congratulations on the last ever Minnie race medal!!

I walked my half in Oklahoma City. It was great. I didn't keep to racewalking form the whole way, more modified because I was going a little more slowly, but I did a wonderful sprint in the last 2 miles. What a rush!

I actually met a man as we were leaving the hotel who racewalked the entire event. He was really happy with his time even though it wasn't a PB. He said that he could blame the wind or the cold or the extra 10 pounds he was carrying, but he had decided to just be happy. (He really reminded me of our dear sweet Panda, but didn't ask for a hug, so I felt certain he wasn't!) He was from Orlando and had done the ToT, last year! The race world is getting smaller and smaller! I invited him to join our boards!

Maria, yes everything keeps getting more expensive. We are looking at some WISH gathering in regions where a lot of us live. I'm hopeing to get a group for Gattlinburg in the smokies. It's beautiful, country and cheap in the off season. Lots of great walking trails, activities and fantastic food.

Denise, how you feeling sweet lady? The exercise and stretching still helping?

Connie you did super in your race and yes a real macho Panda ain't letting a pretty princess go un hugged.pirate:

Tracy, you had an awesome race.

Kathy, how was your race?

Everyone have a great evening.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Hi Walkers!

How's it goin'? I walked Saturday and Sunday, and I'm hoping for nice long walks today at lunch and after work.

Dave -- Your WISH gathering sounds like a great idea! I've been to Memphis and Nashville, but that's the extent of my ventures into Tennessee. Good luck putting everything together! :thumbsup2

Connie -- Wow! It sounds like the Half was some event, and you even managed the share the WISH Love!

Tracy -- You were a woman in motion! I'm so glad you had a great time at Minnie! :goodvibes

Dave 2 the sequel -- Well, you may have a new, awesome body -- I have a body still in need of much improvement. :rotfl2: Still, I have many months left to get it together, and I intend to put every moment to good use! :cool1:

Denise -- I hope the strength training is still helping you. It's one of those things that I know I should do, but it doesn't seem to happen. Gotta do a better job! :)

Ok, Walkers, let's get out there and move!
Maria

Back from the Minnie. Had a great time meeting fellow Wishers at the starting line on Sunday and on the course. Jeanne and I had a really good race and were entertained through the race, but I will let her tell the story when she gets back from WDW. My time was 2:16:10. Sorry that this was the last Minnie as I really liked doing the 15K.

We celebrated our anniversaries at V&A Sunday night. Needless to say her and I had a little buzz going on by the time we left there after the wine pairing. I remember us singing on the monorail from V&A to MK. I'm still amazed that they left us in MK for EMH.

Congratulations to Connie on your half marathon.

dsnyfan21---Great time on your Minnie race.

Dave-- Jeanne and I were just practicing our drinking, to be in shape for the ToT race in Oct. We will get to practice again in Aug for 15 days on the Magic repo cruise. We should be professional drinkers by the time Oct comes.

Nancy

Well tonight and tomorrow are off days for me. I did 3 in a row and want to rest. I do have PT for my knee tomorrow so that will count on miles and min.

I purchased through QVC a 12 DVD series with all kinds of training for all parts of the body. Since I've been given the go ahead by the Dr I feel confident to start a new program to work other parts of my body. The legs are feeling great so I'd like to broaden my program.

Beachbody program! Well we'll see if this old bag can handle it!

52-minute How to Bring it: Chest and Back DVD
58-minute Plyometrics DVD
59-minute Shoulders and Arms DVD
92-minute Yoga DVD
58-minute Legs and Back DVD
55-minute Kenpo X DVD
57-minute X Stretch DVD
57-minute Core Synergistics DVD
55-minute Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps DVD
51-minute Back and Biceps DVD
43-minute Cardio X DVD
16-minute Ab Ripper X DVD

Now all of you that went to the Minnie - Way to Go!!!! Sounds like a FAB time and love V&A no matter what. Yes I have left there a bit tipsy too :rolleyes1 but we weren't driving so it's all good!

My friend and I are trying to decide for 2009 either the Race for the Taste or the TOT. We'll see, be both seem to think the RFTT would be more our speed, early am - we're better off in the am. Ahhhhhhhhh so many races - to pick from.

Anyway, I'm off to the grocery store - yeah - work is done.

denise

Hi guys.

Denise we will be doing ToT this year, not sure what besides the marathon we will be doing next year. We will be doing something though. It's the meet for us not the race.

We are curious how that Everest Adventure goes, some WISHers will do it I'm sure.

Nancy, We miss you and Jeanne. Drinks and hugs from pretty princesses, yep ToT will rock!!!!

We are planning to do the LTT dinner at the ToT weekend and that meet after the Marathon at Epcot for a desert party sounds cool to.

My princess walked a little more today, lunch, movie and a little at the mall looking at new ear rings.

Walking Panda:hippie:

I am back and it was a blast! I truly missed all the walking buddies who couldn't be there. Dave: Nancy and I got in SO MUCH trouble because you weren't there to make us behave. How they let us in MK that night I'll never know. One of the CMs did remind Nancy that there was no alcohol served at that particular park....maybe he was hoping we would both turn around and take out rowdy behavior to EPCOT or something. All I remember is getting on the Pirate ride singing "yo-ho, yo-ho" and calling out to the animatronic Capt Jack that we loved him. This was all infront of our families. My daughter's boyfriend captured it all on video and now threatens to put it on youtube if I don't fork over $1000! (And this is only the second time we've met him!) I guess it's probably not a good idea to do a wine-pairing dinner right after a marathon event. It must go straight to your system. Surprisingly, we both felt great the next day. I've had bad hangovers with much less drinking. As Nancy said, we were just practicing for the TofT afterparty!
I posted our little marathon adventure on the Ohana thread. I'm going to try to post a link so bear with me. And hopefully, here it is: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=24975727&postcount=602
(That was easy)

I have a few photos and i'm going to post them on the reports/photos thread
