Here's the situation. We are going to Wilderness Lodge in January for marathon weekend. WL is our home. We really would like to stay at the Boardwalk. We were put on a waiting list and told that if something comes up with our exact requirements then they would automatcially switch us. My question is.....if someone is booked at BW and is waitlisted for WL and we are at WL waitlisted for BW will they automatically swap us? Or not because there isn't an "open" room at some point?

Does that make sense? I'm just trying to figure out if there is a possibility that this will actually come through for us. TIA!!:surfweb:

No, they won't. Waitlist system isn't sophisticated enough to do that.

Hope it works out for you, anyway!

kimumum I love your suggestion...how tough could it be to get new software to match the waitlists up, not very.

No. I'm sure the main reason is that is that you'd both have to be next up. Just because you each have what the other wants would not move you to the head of the line. You could do a private exchange if the two of you could find each other.

I think it could be very tough - the hard part would be all the rules & what ifs.
Once all those are figured out, itmight not be too hard to do, but I think there are a lot of higher priorities!

For example, let's say you are on the waitlist ahead of me for the VWL. We both want the same dates, but you have a reservation at OKW and I have one for the BWV. Should the software ignore your waitlist position and do a swap with me instead?

What if there are people on the waitlist for BWV that have been there longer than the OP? Should a swap be permitted? Isn't that just a clever way to get around the home resort booking advantage?

The complications are endless - I see no way for DVC to win in these situations. Cost money to develop the software with little benefit for the bulk of the membership.

I'd rather they spend any software development money on getting the computer system to support all of the booking rules and then to put something online so we could check availability.

JMHO. YMMV.
