New vs. Resale

Today I started the process to buy directly through Disney at BLT. My DH is a paraplegic and BLT is the only resort with monorail access. The home resort is not an option.

For 160 points the cost of $19,600 before financing.

There is a BLT resale of 200 points for $20,400 before financing.

My question is do the contracts go for the same length of time and how hard is it to get financing when you purchase resale?

As DVC is Fed Exing the papers today, any quick responses would be great!

If the resale is through The Timeshare Store, they can refer you for financing and advise you as to rates. You may also want to check with your local banks, credit unions, etc. Some people use a home equity loan or line of credit. You may also want to compare closing costs for both DVC directly and resale. Good luck!

What about any incentives for buying direct from Disney? I called today about add-ons for AKV or SSR because of the deal for a free Disney Dream cruise with the add-on of 100 pts or new 160 pts. Also my guide told me that it's either that or $10 off per point. At least until next week's webcast.

It is the same contract length. Financing is not quite as easy via resale as it is through Disney, but they do have companies they can refer you to.

And, if you buy resale, you do have to wait to have the contract go through ROFR. There is always a chance that Disney takes it and you are back to square one.

If you are in no rush, then I would go for it (providing the financing works out). However, if you want and/need to be a member quickly due to an upcoming trip, then you have to way that option.

There is no difference in purchasing resale versus going directly through Disney (except that resale takes a couple months whereas when going through Disney you will have your points in a matter of days). If Disney lets you pass ROFR (big IF due to BLT's recent price increase) you will have the same contract expiration, access to perks, and everything else that members buying through Disney have.
