New Vid Post #18-Gaston vs Guest in Push-up Contest

Cute.:)

I'm a bit surprised Gaston did this after the "Andy's Coming" deal.:)

I saw this on the news yesterday, very funny.

Look at the other video, that one is hilarious, such great role playing.

oh that was funny!!

I wonder if the Disney execs loved it (good promo) or were annoyed by it (and future guests who will try to 'beat' Gaston)

Thanks for posting it!

What happened with "Andy's Coming?"

I screamed this when I saw the toy soldier this past trip. He stopped what he was doing, walked over, shook his finger and made my friend (whom he though said it) do push ups.

I wasn't doing it mockingly. I figured he would freeze.

I saw this Gaston last month when I was in Disney. I can honestly say that it was one of the major highlights of my vacation. He's completely brilliant and is the perfect embodiment of a flesh and blood Disney character in the real world. Complete Disney magic.

I actually didn't even have to get on line to meet him. One of the great things about Disney setting up a meet and greet to meet a villain like Gaston is how low-key it is. It's off to the side in New Fantasyland, by Gaston's Tavern, not alot of people even know it's there, plenty probably completely pass it on their way to Seven Dwarf Mine Train or Enchanted Tales with Belle, or some other ride that is more in demand.

So, because of that, the line to meet Gaston is never terribly long, so this Gaston, and presumably the other actors that play him too, are given full reign to take as long as they like with each guest. This Gaston is incredibly generous, I must say, there are other youtube videos of him too, and you will see just how above and beyond he goes with every guest, and how willing he is to take whatever silliness they want to engage with him in and keep it going for a really long time.

I just went over to the tavern, got myself a Lefou's Brew, and then simply hung back a little from the meet and greet and watched up close, what really is a great show. He's got a great booming voice much of the time and you can hear everything he says and of course, he's playing it to the tilt, so you can see his expressions too, easily, without ever getting on line.

He's now gone viral in 2 meet and greets with guests. This is one special performer. He's so spontaneous and comes up with such great material.

I know! I love the CM in the video. There are a whole bunch of different ones on youtube of him, the same CM. He is the best so entertaining. I discovered them all about a month or so ago.

I really like the one where he embarresses this girl for blushing and another where these 5 teens sing to him.

And then there is the other one that went viral with the little girl insulting him.

They are all priceless.

I decided that I really want to see if I can find him and just sit back and people watch next trip.

I'll admit, I was initially a little jealous of the widespread coverage this got as I did the same thing in 2013. I suppose the moral of the story is: video trumps photos. If it does become the new "Andy's coming," I'm glad I did it while I could. :)

Of course, when I did it, I won. :thumbsup2

Yeah, but did he have to give you "a hand"? ;) Gosh that part was hilarious.

I would imagine Gastons wouldn't be upset with this, considering the guest was the only one *actually* doing pushups. It's all a bit of fun, but Gaston was just bending his arm, not actually doing pushups like the guest was.

I was at Magic Kingdom this past Sunday. A guest challenged Gaston somehow and they ended up doing pushups, but the guest kind of beat him (or at least kept up with him!).

Mind you, it was a different Gaston. When he saw the guest keep up, he said, "yeah but can you do them with your knuckles". The guest did, so did Gaston, although keep in mind he has gloves.

Had a video of it and I think I deleted it :-(

My kids did the "andy's coming" thing too, Woody shook his head, walked to get some grass and pretended to throw it at my kids. Very funny!

Actually Gaston had proper push-up form, the guest did not. A military style push-up you just bend your arms to a 90 degree angle while maintaining a flat back, arms about should width apart. When he was doing it one-handed Gaston perhaps didn't hit 90-degree but what he was doing was still difficult. The guest was exceeding 90-degrees and had sloppy form which is why he could not keep up. If "just bending your arm" is so easy, let's see your video. :)

:lmao: Oh, come now, Gaston! You're even wearing gloves!

The range of motion is what is important, and what makes the pushup hard. Military style is supposed to go all the way down so that your arm is at least parallel or lower (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5ewKCtUGgk). Gaston does that a couple of times and then completely stops, which wouldn't count in the military ;) Guest does it every time. His baggy shirt makes it look like his core is collapsing when it isn't really.

The guest was doing full range of motion. When he switched to one arm, again the guest was doing at least *attempting* proper one arm pushup form, chest to ground. It would have been easier for him with a wider leg stance and moving his hand more to the center of his body. He kinda blew that one ;) What Gaston was doing isn't hard to do. If you really think you need to see video of the trick he's doing, PM me and I'll show you. If you are in good shape, it's ridiculously easy to do.

And I hate to be nitpicky like this. That Gaston is clearly in shape and would have won a pushup contest with that guest, anyway. But he wasn't exactly exerting himself very much, which again, is *totally fine* because it wasn't the point of the video. It's a cool thing and I love the interaction. My whole point is that Gaston probably wouldn't get tired of doing this a few times a day because he's not really doing much. It sure does fool people, though :)
