New VGC Listing at 195 a Point

Not sure what the owner and broker are thinking, but a new 50 Point Contract for VGC was just listed at $195 a point.

Definitely good to try and get what you can, but this seems to be a stretch. Anyone think this could be the start of select resale resorts with waiting lists closed going above direct pricing, or will this prove to just be a case of an owner and broker asking way too much??

Perhaps they think because it is a 50 point contract people will scoop it up despite the price.

I do think we will see some resales going for a premium over direct. You may have to wait 6-12 months if you are even on the VGC waiting list. And if you aren't, what other choice do you have? Supply and demand.

I sold a VGF 50 point contract for $160pp several months ago and that was the highest recorded resale in history and I had it sold within 24 hours of posting.

The main reason I sold was the fact that 50 points doesn't go very far at VGF. Sure I could bank and borrow and use every three years, but that was more work than I wanted.

I probably should have bought more points, but considering I bought for $145 and used two years of points, I was happy with the sale.

Interesting to see if it sells. I get their point though, VGC is very small and hard for non owners to get into at 7 mos. California DLR people are used to going for just a few days so a 50 pt contract is perfect for that. There's no way Disney is going to ROFR that so it's literally in the bag. The processing time may be long for a resale but a heck of a lot shorter than the current Disney wait list.

Wow, that is insane! I am glad we bought our 2 VGC contracts earlier this year (just closed on 2nd) before the points skyrocketed. I thought the prices might go up when they closed the wait list, so I jumped on an add-on contract with the same UY when I saw it. I've been telling my husband every time I see one over $150/pt (and then see the look of fear on his face until I mention that I'm not suggesting we buy it! ), and was just telling him this morning that I saw one for $160/pt. But $195 is just over the top. I'd love to know what it ends up selling for if it sells!

I made an offer on that contract for $165/pt and it was rejected within minutes with no counter-offer. I'm in no rush to buy, and still on the fence as between a 50pt or 100pt contract, but curious to see what happens.

I think it will sell eventually. It's a small contract for a resort difficult to find, I can see someone thinking: it's a grand more than Disney asks but I can have it now, I'll offer $185.

Wow, wish we would have jumped in at that price, too! DVC wasn't even on our radar until this past January. My husband suggested we order the free DVC DVD and it was all over after that. $87/pt makes the $124/pt 'deal' we got look as ridiculous as that $195/pt! Oh well, I am quite happy with our 2 VGC contracts and plan to enjoy them for a long time!

Exactly. We'll know much more about this price as we see if other contracts are quickly sold or just sit there.

When I saw this listing, I thought there must be an error when the broker typed in the numbers! Guess not! Absolute insanity! Will be interesting to see if it sells and if we will ever find out how much it goes for.

I agree, for $15,500 you could have 100 points and a lot more flexibility instead of almost $10,000 for just 50 points.

I've got 2 kiddos under 2 and live in SoCal. A trip to Disneyland once every other year seems perfect for us. Bank points one year, use 100 points following year. No interest in traveling cross country to WDW. Do I really need a 100 pt contract? I know I can rent out unused points.

Sorry, that was 2009. DVD was in full panic mode for,opening Kidani, BLT, THV, and VGC at the worst possible time in most of our lifetimes. Over 10 million new points they were trying to sell while they were receiving a ton of points back from foreclosure so.

Almost all of the other VGC contracts are either "Offer Accepted" or "Sale Pending." Given the extremely small size of VGC, the increasing difficultly of being able to reserve at the 7 month window, the closed wait list for direct purchases, lack of DVC alternatives at Disneyland, the long time period of use left (2060) along with the ever increasing rack rates at the Grand Californian I am beginning to think the average resale prices will be well above $165 in short order.

Also, when paying rack rates for the Grand Californian there is a big difference based on the view type selected, and with the DVC rooms at the Grand they are almost all premium views and all cost the same amount of points, so the savings in comparison to rack rates is relatively greater. In addition, the point chart for VGC was set in 2009 and it does appear points go further in comparison to the more recent DVC resorts. While I don't think we'll see $195 being an average price anytime soon, I also don't think we'll see many contracts being offered below $160 going forward.

Glad I bought my contracts when I did, and if for some reason the pricing does soften to any meaningful degree I will buy more points.
