We'd had a 'wait for it' tip a little while ago about the long-awaited opening of the cute monorail ride in Seuss Landing in Islands of Adventure, and it has been confirmed to us today.

Originally conceived as Sylvester McMonkey McBean's Very Unusual Driving Machines, it will open this summer as the High-InThe-Sky Seuss-Trolley-Train-Ride. And, while it won't be anything startling in ride terms, it will add an enjoyable family and kids' ride experience as it chugs over much of Seuss Landing for a typical Seussian experience with a variety of characters. After embarkation, you will embark for a trolley ride into the 'Inking & Stamping Room' where the Sneetches are looking for places to imprint their famous Sneetch Stars. Next it's the 'Star Wash' room, where guests will be immersed in a flurry of bubbles while their 'Stars' are cleaned, sprayed and sparkled (!). The trolley ride then continues outside with an overview of Seuss Landing, with a bird's eye view of the One Fish, Two Fish and Cat In The Hat rides, as well as a trip through Circus McGurkus Cafe Stupendous. It remains to be seen how well it copes with crowds, as it is unlikely to be a high-capacity ride, but it will be a very welcome addition to the IoA scene. And it will finally (after seven years!) end all the speculation from IoA park-goers wondering what those overhead rails are actually for!

Thanks for the info Simon! That means another trip to Orlando in the future as it won't be open in May when we go :thumbsup2

Thanks Simon, were back in October. We did wander what it was, My DD (4) will love this as she loved the rest of he rides in Seuss Landing.

Hurray! At last! I'm sure I once saw some empty ride vehicles travelling around on the rails. Or did I imagine that?

I'm still intrigued as to why it's taken so long. :confused3

Yes, in years past some vehicles had run occasionally along the rails (empty, of course), just to add a bit of colour to the area. The problem, as we understand it, was that the original ride as first schemed wouldn't pass the new safety restrictions that had just come into place and which required there to be an emergency evacuation system in place. With a ride of this nature, it was a difficult problem to solve. Then the manufacturing company went bust and no-one else seemed able to help out, and everyone just seemed to lose interest in making it work. Finally, the new management seem to have looked at it and, with a completely new ride system, found a way to make it work. It should be a fun addition, provided they can move enough people on it so that you don't get long, slow-moving queues (as is the problem with the Pternodon Flyers).

Lets hope it is nothing like the Q's for the the Pterodon Flyers in IOA, I got an allergic reaction whenever mine asked whilst we were there in October. Everytime we passed it in 3 weeks it said 90 minutes. :rolleyes1

Sounds like an interesting ride, i just wish they would open another thrill ride there too! :D

Nice to see the park adding another ride for the little ones. :thumbsup2

Ahhh thats what it was there for, been wondering for a few years now lol
Thanks for the info :)

There was a long thread about this on one of the other forums. Apparently the evacuation problems were that to get people off a suspended ride like that would obviously need some sort of mobile platform such as a cherry picker. As well as the flooring not being strong enough to support it, it also couldn't have got to the rails where they pass over the water and other structures.

I Hope it's not like pteranodon flyers, I sulked for a week because they wouldn't let me on without a child! :sad1:  :(

My DS has been desperate to go on them since our first trip. When we finally went on a day when the queue was less than 30 minutes he was not allowed on as he had grown too tall :rotfl:

Thanks for the info Simon will look forward to trying this out :)

Sounds great DD (and DH!) would love the theming. We might have to try IOA next trip (not just based on this ride of course :teeth: )

Just wait for a thunderstorm to approach, that usually gets the waiting time down a bit :rotfl2: , thats what happened to us!!!
