New Universal Commercial? Kinda Rude...

That is very true. However the number of people that do is much less than those that do it the other way around.

Fine but its not a very good point. The fact is no one on these boards (a disney discussion board) was slamming Universal until Universal started slamming Disney.

You haven't been on these boards too long, now have you? You should drop by the Universal Discussion boards now and then to see how many people love to post on how much they absolutely hate Universal. Some do it without even having been there!!!

And count us in as another family that go to Orlando usually twice a year but don't go to Disneyworld anymore.

I will pop over to ride EE once though.

I'm thinking Universal should put a new ending on the commecial. The camera pulls back and you see a family in a 50's living room, the boy wearing mouse ears, watching the commercial on their 13" black and white TV. The Dad grumps, "I didn't think that was funny" and the boy looks up and whines, "momma, they're being mean."

I can see legions of Disney fans all wearing Mickey Mouse ears carrying torches and pitchforks heading towards Uinversal, then stopping as they realise its not in their touring plan

I didn't see the commercial-- but it sounds like it was just bad advertising. I personally don't see what the big deal is. I check this board a couple times/day and plan my annual WDW trips way in advance-- I love Disney! But when we're in Orlando, we like to visit Universal/IOA also. It's a totally different type of park. Universal should probably look into showing more of what their parks are like, rather than a few little kids making snotty comments!!! :-)

BRING YOURSELF UP W/O TRYING TO BRING SOMEONE ELSE DOWN

Excellent idea that applies even on this thread for the Disney defenders who can't just like WDW, but must trash Universal in order to demonstrate their Disney passion. I prefer WDW, but the idea that other people may go to Universal doesn't give me the willies.

I have been on these boards for seven years now. I have seen people complain about both Disney and Universal. I agree that people shouldn't go to the Universal boards and talk about how they hate Universal. As you can imagine I do not visit that board and was unaware of that happening often. My point was simply that it is very rare that here on the Disney board we get into an entended anti Universal Discussion, and the fact is in this case it was brought on by Universal itself.

I have to say thank you for this thread. I haven't been to Universal yet and didn't see the commercial but all the negative posts got me interested. Could something so hated actually be really good? I went to the Universal website saw all they had to offer especially the kids free deal and I decided to cancel my Package for a week at the Poly and try Universal with a few days at Disneyworld. :thumbsup2

Oh wrong you are! My family (mom, dad, DS 18, DD 14, DD 11) has gone to Universal 5 times in the past 2 years to spend the week (s) at Universal. Only once in that time we made one day trip to Disney (because we have so many leftover Passes from years gone by).

We have enjoyed the Universal hotels (espec Portofino) MORE than we enjoyed Beach Club (our previous favorite) and the pools were far more relaxing. The food at Universal resorts is excellent (The Palm is a favorite, also Mythos in IOA) and even better we don't need to make reservations months in advance. Two years ago we spent New Years Eve at Hard Rock Hotel and all the hotel guests were treated to a great midnite concert (I think it was "Cheap Trick", they were staying at the hotel) in the lobby (no charge) complete with champagne in real glasses. Believe it or not, there was no pushing and shoving to get food, drinks or a better spot to see the concert. How often does Disney have nice surprises that they haven't advertised and free at that. When I check in to the Loews Hotels they always send real, fresh baked cookies and milk up to the room (free) and I have always been upgraded to suites at no charge. The whole complex is much smaller so we don't need to deal with the endless buses to get from place to place, in fact if we want to we can walk to the parks from each of the resorts. The best part of all is that we never have to wait in long lines to go on the rides (using Universal Express for hotel guests) making for a far more relaxing trip. We're going again for almost a week President's Week (this month) Park tickets are also significantly less expensive if you buy tickets on the promos or have an AP. (although I still have a bunch of old Park Hopper passes so going to Disney parks would be essentially free now until I use them all up)

All that said, I still like Disney so we will be going back to the Beach Club in March (to hopefully put a dent in my pile of unused Park Hopper passes). I'm hoping everything I enjoy at Universal hasn't spoiled me for Disney.

Some people do go to Orlando for a vacation to go to Universal without setting foot on Disney property.

Okay - then my question is... What is there to do for a week in Universal? Honestly. I used to work down in Disney - and took a few trips to Universal and IOA. In 2 1/2 days we had finished everything in both parks. So I'm just curious as to what else they have to entertain. Maybe I'll do some research on the subject now. ;)

I agree that I thought it was tacky. But I guess since they don't have any magic to offer they have to make fun of their major competition. I sure won't be giving my money to them. :thumbsup2

From a business perspective I can understand the rivalry between Disney and Universal.

However, I am from the UK and visit Florida every year, our vacation is not a 'WDW' one, but a 'Florida' one and we are fortunate to have travelled around many areas of the Sunshine State.

For me it is not a competetive thing, I like Disney AND Universal, surely they can sit side by side in ensuring that Orlando is the number 1 holiday destination?

I think if people experience WDW and US, and find they prefer one over the other then that's fine, but what puzzles me is people who have never been to US but nonetheless openly state WDW is better in every way (not necessarily people who have posted on this thread).

Sorry but I totally disagree, our son is Autistic and loves Universal, seeing his smiling face as he approaches Woody Woodpecker coaster or ET or Barney's playground is 'magic' , in my eyes anyway.

put it back up phamton, it was good. I had missed peter's allegations that the UO parks only appear to be busy due to poor crowd management. :) this is the greatest thread I have ever read. I'm ready to go home sick and drive over for a spin on MIB.

Thank-you! That's what I was thinking. Some of these posts remind me of the kid on the playground that everyone teased because they were so whiny. It also brings me back to debate class when our coach said there's no way to debate someone who doesn't have an open mind. I can't believe the post where the parent says that their kids wouldn't like Universal because the parent is a WDW freak! It shows that the parent is real interested in raising a child with an intellectual curiosity-ummm, I don't think so. Or what about the posts that state the little girl looks like a brat? I sure hope then that these parents do not allow their children to watch ANY tv because there is a plethora of bratty kids all over tv-Disney channel included. Also, those who are offended by the Universal commercial-what do you do during political campaign season?
I like both parks. It amazes me that so many take these commercials so seriously-they are not meant as a personal attack. :scared1:

Wow I wish I could drive over !

I think its flipping hilarious....and I have never been there, only to Disney.
