New turnstile testing underway at Epcot.

Actually I'm not a fan. I like putting my ticket through, scanning my finger, and then walking through the turnstiles to have another day in wonderful disney paradise:love:To me, this just looks more complicated:confused3:confused3

Following my earlier post about the test with pictures. Took a while to get around to uploading to photobucket.

Here's the "Scanner" that is used to read the RFID.

This shot shows the Ticket scanner as well as the finger print scanner. Note the "Mickey" has lit up showing the ticket is accepted.

As I said before, my wife was thrilled to be part of the test, but the test did not work well. Two of the four in our party were not able to scan through. I'd say this was common, as the line moved much slower than a regular line. The nice thing I guess was no turnstile, so nothing blocking a stroller coming in.

I should preface this question with me not necessarily caring about finger scans in terms of identity theft, but does this absolutely "require" you to scan your finger?

I'm a bit of a germaphobe and am not entirely thrilled at the prospect of putting my finger where a million other germy fingers have been. I'd probably make a scene if I had to.

I will preface my answer with the following. This is of my current knowledge of how they work.

Either with the RFID testing, or the method they have now you have to scan your finger. It doesn't matter either way as far as I'm aware.

Yes as the PP said, I would assume that it would the same way it works now. I believe people now can show ID instead of the finger scan.

If you make a scene, I'd say you're more than "a bit of a germaphobe."

;)

Really? Germs? Why don't you just wash your hands or use disinfectant? Your finger gets scanned either way. Unless you'd rather them imbed the rfid chip under your skin... I'll pass on that one!

I really wish they'd just get rid of the biometric scanners...they are complete BS...

first, i've switched tickets with other members of our party for kicks a bunch of times...it really doesn't seem to matter..

second, if anyone thinks that Disney would attempt to be a hardliner and deny entry based on the scanner...you haven't pay attention.
Disney avoids confrontation at all costs when it comes to issues...because a happy clentele spends more...they would never push it - unless its sometype of mall security yahoo who thinks he's a cop.

third, they want you in the park to buy stuff anyway...its not like the profit is made off your tickets. so why would they intentionally deny fodder for the giftshop lines?
answer is...they wouldn't.

As far as "germs" and "germaphobes" - the reality is that your are born covered in bacteria, spores, and viruses, you are covered in them every single momemnt of your life, and you go into the ground covered with them.

That is the fact. No amount of purell will save that.

So i guess...just relax and look at it objectively.

Besides - IT'S A CUTE MICKEY SCANNER!!!

I hate to discourage you, but EVERYTHING you touch at Disney World has been first touched by thousands, if not tens of thousands, of others. From queue railings, to ride vehicles, to bus seats. Probably the cleanest place in WDW is the bathrooms - which they are in cleaning and disinfecting all the time.

I know from whence I speak, my wife caught Chicken Pox there in 2000.

In other words - the finger ID - the least of your germ issues should you go there!

1. Not exactly

2. Tickets bought together can be grouped together so if you do accidently switch it doesn't hold up the line.

3. Disney very much wants to make sure you have a legit ticket. Why would they change the ticket upgrade procedure to to help stop ticket scammers

4. How much stuff would you have to buy to make up for losing from between $50 and $80. Thats real money.

5. :thumbsup2 People have some fantasy that every night a team in hazmat suits goes around at disinfects every surface. No it may get a quick wipe down with some rag but thats about it.

6. I'm not sure Purell kills much of anything and is mostly a placebo. If it does kill anything its probably the good bugs and may lead to an end of the world scenario. :goodvibes

7. :thumbsup2 Mickey wouldn't hurt anyone.

the scanners are more of a head fake than they are actual proven anti-theft/piracy technology.

like a cop sitting in plain view on the interstate on a summer day or those plastic "scanners" (many of which were actually hollow for years and may still be in some antiquated places now) at your local giant eagle (ours were when i worked there...in fact)..they are things to garner a result...which they often succeed in.

the bioscanners are great and all...but its not like they are granting access to Langely or anthing...the volume is too high at turnstiles to use the system for its stated purpose.

If they wanted to be all tough...then there would be no overide or exception to the bioscanner...if its green, you're in...if not, the ticket is destroyed and you are turned around.

See how that would work? At Disney, it wouldn't. There is no way to maintain their atmosphere and be fbi at the front gate.

They know this (first hand experience)...you hold to the policy only for a moment and only as long as the anger is low...then you eliminate a developing conflict as quickly as possible.
and in a place that charges a fortune and where expectations are inhumanly high at all times for 95% of the clientele...that means they concede and let you through as quickly as possible.

And i'm sure disney thinks they are being robbed at the ticket gate...and i'm sure they are...but its pretty marginal at this point.
The "buy disney ticket" resale booths that were everywhere ten years ago off of property are pretty much dried up...mainly because of the deterent of their system. And the length of stay concept takes out the natural "14 day window" that used to exist on the UPH where resales in the parking lot had value to scalpers...

Besides...if there is robbery going on at the gates with the consistent price increases and limited reinvestment...the robbers are wearing nametags...
