Has anyone had an HSG done? Is it painful?

I'm not trying to be the bearer of bad news, but I thought it was pretty bad. It hurt like heck while they were doing it (which is only like 5 minutes), and then was a bit crampy afterwards. So it's not excruciating for days or anything, but not pleasant for about 15 minutes total.

:grouphug: For everyone this Mother's Day. This has to be one of the most painful holidays. Even though I have my son, that old pain still comes back every year. Scars run deep.

Hang in there everyone... the day is almost over. :cheer2:

I skipped church today because we were at my inlaws' and they always do baby dedication during their mothers' day service. What a hard, hard day.

On a slightly weird note, I've still been using that clearblue monitor. Last month it went to peak fertility on about day 16. Relatively normal, right?

Well, so this month, it has stayed on high (not peak) for like 2 weeks. Today, day 27, it hit peak. WHAT? Maybe it's day 28. Either way, nuts.

Hugs to everybody...

:grouphug: to everyone. Hope everyone made it OK through Mother's Day. It is a tough holiday to get through when you want so badly to be a mom and you can't. I was with my mom for most of the day, so I made the day about her. That made it a little easier.

It's CD13, and I'm going tonight for my u/s. I did Clomid CD 4-8, and then Follistim injections days 9-11. Since Saturday, I've felt really bloated and crampy. I hope my follicles are busy in there doing something! It sure feels like they are! We chose a new donor, and we're ready to go this month. :woohoo:

Hope all is well for everyone. :grouphug: and good wishes for everyone, and special  to Diana. Hope your DS continues to do well, and that things get less stressful for you in the coming days and weeks. Congrats on your BFP! :flower3:

Hey everyone,

I had my HSG this morning...painful but still good results. My fallopian tubes are not blocked, so if after my next blood test in a few weeks to re-check my prolactin levels, if everything is good, we should be free to proceed with the IUI, as long as we can afford it. We haven't really gone over that with the doctor much yet because we wanted to get all these other tests & stuff out of the way...wish I knew more about how much the IUI would cost. But, in the mean time...so far, so good.

I'm going to join in on the new thread. I went thru 2.5 years of infertility treatments and was on the old thread for a while. While we were at disney over April vacation hubby dropped that he wanted to try and have another kid...so not like him to bring it up.

My story in a nutshell. DS1 6.5 years, got pregnant first try off pill. DS2 15 months, another story all together. Tried for 6 months referred to infertility dr, went thru all the testing, etc. Found problem w/hubby, small problem with me (mine shouldn't stop me from getting pregnant) 3 failed IUI's, 2 IVF's, once resulted in preg that I lost at about 7-8 weeks. The other, the embryos didn't make it to day 3 for the transfer. Went back for meeting w/dr and decided to have hubby have the surgery to fix the problem. So, had surgery, infertility dr, said its better, but your still going to need IVF. Call me when your cycle starts and we'll start the meds...well, cycle didn't start. I was probably actually pregnant when I was sitting in her office.

So now, thoughts..do I send hubby to his urologist for testing just to see where we stand??? His numbers were still low at the 3 months post surgery, but they said they could get better. I don't want to wait months to only find out they would recommend infertility. I need to do some research on what our insurance that we have now covers, if anything.

I'm going to call my doctor to start prenatals, I'm a little taken back by all of this, as it was out of the blue. We decided to wait until our youngest was 2 to make the decision on another.

Courtney  I don't blame you for skipping church. I would have done the same thing. I'm not sure what to tell you about the monitor, but I would take notes and mention it to you doctor. I don't think it is right for you to have such a long high fertility period. And definitly not "normal" to have peak on day 27!

Christal, good luck!! I hope this round is it for y'all!! :goodvibes

Allie, that's great news!! I don't know much about IUI, but it's my understanding that it is a lot less expensive than IVF. Good luck!!

TiggerStac, welcome back! Sorry you had to join us again, though. I would probably have my DH tested again to see where things stand. I'm just starting down that road myself. We've been TTC #2 for almost 2 years. We recently had DH tested and had some funky stuff come up with his sperm (low count and abnormal), so he's headed towards a urologist for followup. Not sure if my DH would agree to surgery, though. If you don't mind me asking, what type of surgery did your DH have?

Good news everyone...despite AF showing up ON mother's day  , last night DH gave me the go ahead to make his appt with the urologist! Woo Hoo!! :cool1:

So, now that we're at the point where we'll begin talking to doc about IUI...does anyone have any ball-park estimates about what the IUI procedure costs?

Also, since we are using donor sperm, what will happen after the baby is born...will we be able to put my husband's name on the birth certificate as father or will that not be allowed since biologically it's not his?

IUI procedure cost us around $400 per month in 2001. The Clomid I had to take cost about $50 for 1 month. Don't know about donor costs or rules but I think you can put your DH on the birth certificate.
Good Luck!

I think that the price for IUI varies. I know ours is $250 per procedure, and we do two per cycle. I think you'll probably find that the range is from about 250-500.

And as for the donor aspect of it, from what I understand, you should have no problem listing your DH as the father on the birth certificate. They'll ask you (or they may just assume that he's the bio dad), and you'll just tell them to put his name there.
In my sister's case, they asked and she didn't know. :rolleyes1

Oh! And I forgot to check back in and say that last night at my scan I had 2 follicles on their way to being winners  , and a possible third. (the 2 were at 16 and 17, and the third was at 12 I think.) So she wanted to wait another day while I continue to do the OPK's (still no +OPK yet :confused3 ) and hopefully those puppies will be nice and big by tomorrow! :thumbsup2 She also gave me one more injection of Follistim while I was there last night. (I'm starting to feel like a pin cushion!)

But we're looking at possibly tomorrow for the trigger, then Thursday and Friday for the IUI's.

Keep the good thoughts coming! :goodvibes
Good luck to everyone else too! :cheer2:

Good luck with your IUI...hope it takes!

Things have been really crazy at work lately so I don't have time to post much but I have been reading every night.

Allison - :cool1: That is great that your DH has agreed to the appointment. Did you get it scheduled?

ChrizJen - Good luck with the IUI. Fingers crossed that the third time is a charm!

Everyone else - good luck and baby dust to all!

Allison, :cool1: on setting up the appointment for your DH! :thumbsup2

Good Luck Christal!

I have my Day 12 ultrasound on Thursday of this week so hopefully my follicles will be about the right size. We'll keep our fingers crossed! I have no idea with the IUI costs...DH was with me at our first one and he paid while I sat on the table for 6 minutes. ;)

Allison-WOO HOO! for the appointment! My pregnant coworker's sister-in-law's husband (yeah, follow that) had to go on clomid due to sperm issues. She had difficulty with TTC, too. She had an ectopic and had to have a tube removed, then got pregnant (and it stuck) the next month). The coworker had difficulty with the 1st, but the 2nd was a surprise. She's easier to handle, probably for that reason.

Went last night for another u/s, and my follies were 19 and 22!!!! (the third one was only 13) But those are the best ones I've had yet!! And the lining is still really thick. :thumbsup2

Had IUI #1 this morning, and I had a little bit of spotting. But she said not to worry because that sometimes happens when the lining is nice and thick. When the catheter goes in, it disturbs the lining a bit.

IUI #2 is tomorrow morning. :goodvibes

:grouphug: Hugs and good vibes to everyone today!! :goodvibes

ChrizJen - Good Luck. I think that spotting is a good sign and it sounds like everything else is in your favor. :thumbsup2

AF and her dog SPOT arrived 1 day early, :guilty: so I am feeling rather crummy today. Thought we had it this month because things just felt "different" but no such luck. Meanwhile, there are others announcing due dates left and right. Dates that should have been mine so I know exactly when they got pregnant. :headache:
