HI. I just thought I would post this and maybe some of you would sympathize with me.

I planted a vegetable garden this year, only my second one. And the only thing that did well, after the groundhogs ate everything, were my tomatoes. They are huge. And tons and tons of fruit. Well I noticed that everytime I touch the plants my hands got itchy. And then one day after picking tomatoes, blanching them, making spaghetti sauce and eating a few on my salad- My throat closed up and I couldn't breathe. Thus now I know for sure that I'm allergic to tomatoes.

Now I have all these beautiful tomatoes and I can't eat them. And for next year I probably won't plant them and they are the only plant that did well at all!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry. It sounds like you had a great bunch this year. I love the smell of tomato vines and fresh tomatoes. I have never heard of a tomato allergy though-hope you feel better.

Thanks so much. My Mom came over and took all the rest of the tomatoes away so I wouldn't be tempted. Next year, I'll have to find some other vegetable the groundhogs don't like that will be grow just as abundantly.

And I had never heard of a tomato allergy either. Although the Dr. said it's quite common. Strange.

I am allergic to the vines and leaves only. Just to the plant itself. It makes me all itchy and very tiny blisters appear, break and then takes a lon time to heal.

I am not allergic to the tomatoes themselves once the stem has been taken off.

You might try again and see if you might just be allergic to the greenery and the sap from the leaves/plants. I am also allergic to everygreen sap (xmas trees) so it must be similar.

Funny that you are allergic to the tomato plant, and evergreens as well. I thought that I was only allergic to the plants too. I was really surprised when my throat closed. Probably at some point I will try tomatoes again. But not for a while. The Dr. I went to doesn't suggest it. Also because I've had a reaction to eggplant which is in the same family as tomatoes. It's a bummer though. Tomatoes are in everything.

And my plants are just out there taunting me with all these left over tomatoes saying "HA- Ha here we are and you can't eat us" lol

My sister can't have fresh off the vine tomatoes either- she has the same anaphlysis reaction. She can however have processed tomatoes- spaghetti sauce and canned tomotoes of all kinds.

Hi. Well last week I decided to try some tomatoes. With my Epipen in hand, I had about a teaspoon on ketchup on my hamburger. And I was totally fine. !! So a few days later I really wanted to have some pizza. So I did. And about half- way thru my second slice my tongue started itching and then the back of my throat. So I stopped. It didn't get any worse but I didn't want to risk it. So who knows maybe in a year or something.....

It's just stinky. I really like tomatoes, and all of the things made from them.
