New to Universal/IOA...May 2010 trip...help!

We have decided to do a "last minute" vacation and decided to try Universal and IOA for our first time ever. We have been to Disney many times, but this is such a different planning experience! I have a few questions that I would really appreicate some help with..

1) Would we need to expect large crowds the week of 5/4 - 5/11/10? I realize this is before the whole Harry Potter crazy time begins, but will it be impacted prior?

2) Will we regret staying off site to save some $? Always have stayed onsite at WDW...not sure what to expect here.

3) How many days should we really expect to need in the two parks to cover everything very well? We are a family of 5 - 2 adults and 3 kids at 14, 11 and 9 years old. We are used to 10 days at WDW...what does it take for these two parks?

4) Transportation to Sea World from Universal area...waht are the options?

Definitely worth at least one night on sight for the front of the line privleges that you get for staying on property. You would get two days of front of the line for one night at a Universal hotel. Then you could have a day at each park with front of the line, and take your time at each park.

1.) The beginning of May is usually slow so you probably won't have big crowds that week. There's a lull between Spring Break and Memorial Day weekend.

2.) I doubt you would regret it but you will have access to the pools and unlimited Express access for the duration of your stay. It's well worth the money.

3.) I would say 3-4 days to see everything and go back to do the favorites again. Universal is a lot more laid back than Disney so you can take your time and enjoy.

4.) The onsite hotels offer free transfers between Universal and Sea World. You would need to check with the hotel for the schedule.
