Ok, be nice to me, just joined DVC (during Sept trip). Took advantage of a promotion and got some "developer" points. Booked right then for 12/12 to 12/10. Would like to change to 12/4 to 12/10.

ANY DVC resort is ok with us.

Just called member services and two days for revised trip are open at Old Key West (our first choice) and NOTHING any where else.

What's the real chances of something opening up for 12/4 to 12/10?

Do I book the two days they have and wait list the others?

Or do you thing I should just stick to the days we have?

I appreciate your opinions (I feel silly that this is so close to the vacation dates, but would like to change days if at all possible).
Thanks.

The tough part is not knowing how far down you might be on the waitlist. When you go on the waitlist, you have two options:

Waitlist for every day of your trip individually--this has the best chance of success as each day will be booked when it comes available. But, you also could end up bouncing between multiple resorts unless you waitlist for just one specific property.

Or, you could waitlist for the entire time period. IMO, this has the least chance of success as you'd have to have the entire 6-7 night period come available simultaneously. If someone cancels a trip that encompasses 5 of those nights, you will be bypassed on the waitlist and someone else will get the nights. This close to the arrival it's a really risky proposition.

If you really want to change, I'd take the days at OKW and waitlist day-by-day for the rest of the trip at just OKW. OKW is the largest resort now and would then have the highest probability for cancellations.

Beyond that, call MS periodically and see what they have to say. It probably wouldn't be too much of an inconvenience to move once during your stay--say if you could get 3 nights at BWV and the rest at OKW. But it would be very difficult to structure your waitlist request to avoid the potential for really bouncing around the entire resort.

Maybe some of the other long-time members will have a different take on it. If it were me, I'd just shoot for OKW and hope for the best.

I think you made a boo-boo in your posting. Did you mean that you booked from 12/10-12/12, and now want to add on the 6 nights before? I can't figure out how many nights you are wanting to waitlist, and how many nights you actually have.

If you get a chance, re-post....and maybe someone here can give you a better idea of your chances.

Welcome to DVC, and the boards!!

Yep, sorry got the dates wrong.

We currently have ressies for OKW from 12/12 to 12/16.

I'd like to change to 12/4 to 12/10.

They told me they only have 2 dates available between 12/4 and 12/10 and they're not back to back.

We're open to any DVC resort, but would like to stay in one (or two) places for the whole time.

My question is what do you think the chances are of getting the change? Would I need to go on the waitlist for each day seperately?

I planned on not cancelling the 12/12 to 12/16 until after I have the other dates (or keep them if it doesn't work out). I think I would need to have the plans complete by 30 days prior to check-in.

What do you think? Is it probably way to late to even try?

To be honest, I wouldn't get your hopes up. That is one of the most popular weeks of the year for DVC. I've stayed at BWV that week the past 4 years and have it booked for this year. It's always soldout. I book day by day at 11 months. Keep on trying, you never know!

I would DEFINITELY get on the list day by day. I really don't know what your chances are.

One more thing, though. Sometimes you will find people who have ressies who need to cancel, and their points are near expiring. They will list these ressies on the rent/trade board, and you can either pay them cash, or...if your points are not so close to expiring, they will accept your points for their reservation. It is definitely worth a shot to keep checking the rent/trade board.

Good luck,
