Hi PrincessShmoo, I see you write that links to the a group outside Disboards are not allowed but are most of them not organised via Facebook? The thread for 'our' cruise date starts with the Facebook link. I wished it was handled on the cruise meet thread, everybody seems to connect somewhere else.
Well, there is a policy regarding cruise meet groups and Fish Extenders on DISboards:
https://www.disboards.com/threads/i...uise-meet-and-fish-extender-programs.3353477/
Unfortunately, not everyone who starts a Cruise Meet thread or a FE group reads all the rules, and links to other sites have been posted.
Cruise Meet threads have, in the past, been where people "meet up" to talk about their cruise and set up activities for the group. Fish Extenders, cabin crawls, pajama parties, as well as private mixology groups and many other things have been set up that way.
A few years ago, people started saying "come on over to XXXXXX" (some other social media site) and join us." Basically gutting the DISboards groups. Many people don't realize that joining a facebook group is not the same as joining a DISboards group (or any other group). Each is an entity unto themselves.
The administrators here felt that such practices (inviting people here to move to another site) was detrimental to the activities here and set up the policy to not allow links (much like other sites not allowing such links).
There's no reason that other sites can't have groups set up for Disney cruises, but they should remain on "their" site and not troll other sites to up their membership (in my opinion). There's also no reason that a person can't join Fish Extender groups on more than one site for the same cruise (I've done it). But they were each separate unto themselves.
