I know there have been a couple of threads on this, but I didn't think I was going to be getting an iPad soon so I didn't pay much attention...

However, I just bought an iPad last night!! :cool1:

64gb, Wifi only, and just the 1st generation one - but only $399!

I travel almost every week for work, so I think I'm really going to mainly be using it on the plane, in the airports, and in my hotel.

Now, time to start learning about it since I know nothing!! If anyone has any tips or anything to share I am eager to learn! :worship:

Great deal! Was this iPad new? Online store? My MIL is looking for one. Thanks!

PS-the iPad is great. I have the 16GB Wifi and it's just amazing. I connect to WiFi just about everywhere--YMCA, Wegmans, Starbucks, McDs. I like many apps; I have ones for stores/companies I like, games, weightloss, reading, etc. The list is endless. We also loaded a few kid movies and shows for when we're out.

I got it from Verizon, I read about the deal on another site. Brand new, $399+tax, no contract required since there is no 3G. 1-800-256-4646, I just asked about iPads and requested the 64gb 1st generation one. Sounded like they're running low on stock (probably because the deal is out) so if you want to get one I'd call asap. Some of the reps were telling other people different things, like there is a waitlist if you're not a Verizon customer, etc...but that is not true. If you'd like, I can PM you the name of my customer service rep that helped me last night, he was very helpful!

My friend got a 32gb last month at a Verizon store before they ran out. They still have a limited number of 64gb. They have cases marked down, too.

back to the OP's question..

When I first got my iPad, I googled "best free iPad apps" and found several great lists. There's an app in the App store called "App Start" that has some good ones to start with, too.

I found a website called www.theipadfan.com that has some nice info. You can sign up to get a tip of the day via email.

I gave my husband an iPad2 for his birthday. I can tell you that with all Apple products, it is very user friendly. There are a lot of fun Apps, some free. One thing we have done is to put movies from our collection on to a back-up hard drive. Then, using a network, we access them on the iPad and my MacBook any where we are. Means you aren't using a lot of memory from the IPad yet getting to enjoy movies.

ipadforums.net will have everything you every wanted or needed or even didn't need to know about the ipad.

Download the free iBooks app, then go to the book store and download the iPad users guide. Read it - lots of good info.

If you have a Netflix subscription, download their app so you can stream movies. I also downloaded the HBO app, since we subscribe to HBO, and can stream movies and tv shows through that. I also downloaded the Xfinity (Comcast) app, so I can also watch on demand shows and tv. These are all great for traveling.

I just got an iPad 2 and love it!

If you like games, do not, i repeat DO NOT get the Plants vs Zombies game.
That game makes your laundry pile up, the dust get thicker, your floors dirtier and makes you throw in a frozen pizza for your family dinner.
At least, thats what happened at my house :)

lol!

Thanks for all of those suggestions!! It should be delivered tomorrow, so I'll check out all of those iPad sites! I have an iPhone, so there isn't much for me to get used to as far as manuevering around with it...I just know it can do so much more than the iPhone and thats what I need to figure out.

No deals on the iPad 2 that I'm aware of, just the 1st generation 64gb.

Get Goodreader, Dropbox, Appshopper. I think good reader is about $5, but you can open anything with it, and annotate pdf files etc.

Dropbox is free 2GB of webdav storage.

Appshopper gives you some nice filtering options, so you can see apps that had a cost associated with them that are now FREE, and other searching options too.

I have heard good things about sugarsync...I also have keynote and pages, but you don't need them to do anything but create presentations and documents etc. Google apps is nice to do that with, and it is free.
