Well, I got bit by the NAS bug once again.
Found a great deal on a used Nikkor 70-210mm f/4 AF lens. keh had it rated as BGN, which is classified as : "Bargain" 70-79% of original condition. Shows more than average wear. May have dents, dings and a goodly amount of brassing and finish loss. Glass may have marks that should not affect picture quality.
The price was pretty good ($154) so I decided to take a chance. They do have a 60 day return policy.
It came in last Friday. I didn't get a chance to use it over the weekend, but DS did have a game last night so I took it along and ended up using it for the whole game.
I was pretty impressed with it overall. First of it has the f/4 through the entire focal range and its 1/10th the cost of the f/2.8.
I inspected it pretty throughly when I got it. It has a few light scratches on the part of the body, but otherwise is in fine condition. No dents, no dings, no finish loss. I couldn't see anything on the glass. All the pics are clear. Zoom is nice and smooth. Focusing, while a tad slower than my AF-S lenses, did real good. Almost no hunting.
For the T-ball game the focal range was perfect. I think its a keeper. I'll try it out again next week and maybe try and get some general shots of the kids around the house and yard (if the weather holds).
Here are a few shots I took with it. I mostly used f/8 and as it got later went down to f/5.6. I still got fast enough shutter speeds at ISO 400 & 800.
ISO 800 1/250th f/6.3 125mm focal length
ISO 800 1/250th f/6.3 125mm focal length
ISO 800 1/250th f/8 210mm focal length
I like the way they came out. I only did a little PP. Adjust white balance and picture control.
When my focus was where I wanted it, they are very sharp.
