Hi, we're in ROFR on a contract and I'm thrilled. But I keep coming up with ??s

1. We hate split stays, is it difficult to get a week to 10 days at 1 resort?? I know 7 months is a gamble, I know I will always book home resort first then see if I can switch.

2. I get use year, I get bank/borrow. Transfers I'm not sure. Why would anyone do this???

3. If I decide to buy more points, I'm sure addonitis will set in, is it best to get it at the same resort, or another one? I don't really get if you have to use your points at your home resort to benefit from 11 month window, how is owning at several resorts helpful???? For example, if I bought 25 more points, that wouldn't be enough to cover my vacation, so I wouldn't be able to book at 11 months???

I'm always thinking of more questions so TIA!!!!

You've got the right idea, book your home resort and then when the 7 month window opens see if you can switch. It really will depend on the time of year and what you're trying to book. Smaller resorts are more difficult, BCV and BWV during Food & Wine will be difficult, etc.

2. I get use year, I get bank/borrow. Transfers I'm not sure. Why would anyone do this??? I've never done a transfer, but if I wanted to take a certain trip and didn't have enough points, maybe had already borrowed or wanted next year's points for a different trip, I could try to get a transfer of points from another owner into my account.

3. If I decide to buy more points, I'm sure addonitis will set in, is it best to get it at the same resort, or another one? For example, if I bought 25 more points, that wouldn't be enough to cover my vacation, so I wouldn't be able to book at 11 months???If you bought 25 points, you could book a vacation of 75 points every three years, with banking and borrowing, at 11 months.

I'm always thinking of more questions so TIA!!!!

Congratulations! Keep the questions coming, you'll get really useful information around here!:goodvibes

Can I please ask a different/quick newbie question related to the points chart calculation - if you don't mind?

The quoted weekly point rate in the charts, is that for a 6 or 7 night stay?
I always get that mixed up! :headache:

Thanks for your help!

Hi, I am by no means a DVC expert but think I can help.

1. The only times you may not get a week at a non home resort at the 7 month window would be during popular times and possibly holidays. First two weeks In December at any DVC resort, food and wine time at BCV and BWV are a couple that come to mind. That being said, if you are on the phone at 9 am cst(8 est), you should get what you want.

2. Transferring points is not suppose to be done for monetary profit. That being said, you could transfer your current uy points to another DVC member for compensation. There are rules in the POS about transferring, I would read up on them.

3. As far as adding on 25 points from a different home resort, I believe members do this alot. It is easier to maintain those points if you keep the same uy as your other contract. If you bank those 25 points the first year, and borrow points the next year, you would have up to 75 points every 3 years. You Can also use those 25 points at the 7 month window at any DVC resort.

I'm sure others will post with more help. That is all that comes to mind now.

7 nights. You can verify this by adding up the per night point costs.

Seven nights (just like Mousewerks stated) as long as you don't cross seasons. So if you arrive on Dec 29 and depart Jan 5, you cross seasons, so you can't go by the weekly rate.

That weekly rate is just to make it a bit easier to calculate the number of points needed for a seven night stay. You can also use the point calculator on the DIS or on the member website.
