We are new to the DVC concept and are seeking advice. I'm sure these questions have been asked a thousand times before but now there is so much information out there that it becomes overwhelming navigating through it all.

We would simply like to know how to best proceed, say if we want a resale around 150 to 200 points. Who do we contact ?
What is a fair price to pay?
We are interested in the Boardwalk.
Perhaps there are many issues we don't even know to ask about.
As Canadians, are there special considerations or problems?

Thank you,

The boards are the right place to start and you're right...it is a lot of information to digest. Don't be shy...ask questions just like you have done here. My personal experience is just that. My wife had a good knowledge of DVC thru co-workers and I needed to catch up. I was given the DISBoards and look at me know. We just purchased a resale 350 point contract.

Here is a thread that will help you understand your pricing questions, http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1710667&page=70
There is good information that gets regularly updated on here.

The Timeshare Store listed above is one reseller, http://***********.com/ is another, GMAC does resale as well though I'm not personally familiar with them.

There is a thread out there that provides a "DVC in a nutshell" type of approach. I don't have the link but it answers a lot of the questions you may have. And without specific questions to answer it's hard to just go on about DVC. Keep poking around here and you'll be surprised at how much you can learn.

Good luck!

It can be very confusing. Remember that the resorts expire in different years. AKV and OKW expire in 2057, SSR expires in 2052, and all the others currently expire in 2042. So right now any points purchased at BWV will end in 2042. There may be an extension for a certain price similar to OKW, but one never knows for sure. You will find different prices for each resort as well. If you are looking to buy AKV or SSR, it may be best to buy direct from DVC. But I would price out both direct and resell. Resells will vary greatly and could have extra banked points or could have less points because of borrows and/or recent trips.

Since your home resort has an 11-month booking window and all others you may book at 7 months, it is pretty wise to buy where you want to stay most often. But many have had pretty good luck at the 7-month window or even closer. A lot depends on how flexible you are with your dates and the resort you stay at. Certain times of year are very popular for DVC members and must be booked very early (maybe even at the 12 month mark). These would include holiday times, the FWF at EPCOT (especially for BWV and BCV), the first two weeks of December, and most of the spring break period. So most will agree that DVC is for people that normally plan their trips pretty far in advance.

Be sure to read everything you possibly can about DVC. You need to be educated for it to work best for you. You will have numerous surprises, if you don't keep up on things. For example, DVC sent out a something (in the minutes of the member meeting I believe) and posted on the member website about exchange fees quite some time ago. But we still get people that will be startled about it when calling to make an exchange, even though it was enacted months ago. Good luck and keep asking questions!

Hi - another DVC wannabe here! From what I've gathered, you can only book at the earliest 11 months in advance for your home resort, so how can they be booked at the 12 month mark? Please explain if there's something I'm not understanding. Thanks!

I'm not a newbie, but I am very interested in the answer to this question, if there is one.:rolleyes1

Thank you! Just wanted to be sure there wasn't a secret 12 month booking strategy or something.:thumbsup2
