We are going to DLR for the first time ever the third week in July and I see so many posts for it. Am I going to miss out on something special?

The Blue Bayou is the resturant that is inside the Pirates of the Caribean ride. It is a neat place to have a meal.

Blue Bayou is the restuarnt connected to POTC you can get water side seats and watch the boats for the ride go by. Never Done it but we have plans for our next trip

When you go to New Orleans Square, the Blue Bayou it's next to the exit of POTC and kiddie-corner from Cafe Orleans. There are ppl drawing caricatures across from the BB too.
It has really good food and the ambiance is lovely. If you don't mind paying extra for really good food, it'll be a good place to check out.

The Blue Bayou is located right outside the exit to Pirates of the Caribbean.

It is a song, that is sung by Crystal Gayle, or was it Linda Ronstadt? (the way I remember it, it was LR)
Anyway, I love New Orleans Square, for it houses two of my most favorite ride attractions of all DL, and DCA as well, those being The Haunted Mansion, do be sure to visit the infamous, I meant famous, Gracey Mansion, and then the Pirates of the Caribbeano, ( I like to add the o, sometimes) just remember, no flash pictures please, oh look! Carlos just handed me a menu for the Blue Bayou! you may peruse it here if ye care to via that link you shall also see an interactive map of Disneyland.
Enjoy! if ye dare to venture forth! for ye may like or not so much thee Bayou, for it is not for everyone, nor can one always be so sure about the grub! I for one, have so far, enjoyed dining there. Just don't ask me about the rolls!

I don't mind paying a high price for really good food (i.e. Napa Rose), but I disagree with that description of BB's food. It is overpriced and mediocre. I think what you are really paying for is the atmosphere and that alone is worth it in many people's minds. It is a cool place to eat.

We had lunch there a year and a half ago last. Our lunch with tip was around $160. For $160, my dish was terrible (avoid the mahi mahi), my kids both hated their meals and barely ate them. My husband's prime rib was very good (not the greatest ever), however. The dessert was very good (the cookie boat thing). If you do go, order safe (prime rib, short ribs, monte cristo, or some pork thing that some seem to like on here) and pay the $4 for a split plate charge to keep your costs down.

or you may consider just going to the BB for dessert. I have yet to eat there but want to check out the atmosphere so when we go in just a couple of weeks we have priority seating at 340pm to have dessert only (I did tell the cm on the phone that this seating would be for dessert only, and that was not a problem) The cookie boat dessert looks fabulous!

How do you get a table waterfront? Do I need to be specific when making PS or is it luck of the draw?

From what I hear, you go 15 min early for your reservation and ask for one. You may have to wait a little longer.

We were gonna go there for a meal, but hearing all the bad or mediocre reviews, I think we'll do dessert just for the ambiance. And we were gonna go, just me and my DH..but I want the kids to see the magic too. So dessert with our kids on the BB sounds perfect to me.

great, thanks! I will plan on showing up 15 min early then. I know for sure my girls will not like the food there so I didn't want to hear them complaining the whole time and they definitely wouldn't want to hear their mom complaining about paying for a meal they didn't eat so I figure dessert was a win-win situation:)

Good advice. The short ribs were very good. The Monte Cristo, I dare say, wasn't that good..it has gotten even greasier, if possible, or maybe I've just gotten older and unable to handle it. Cookie boat is good for an over the top rich thing..Key Lime pie was very diappointing. Tasted like a Jello box mix. The atmosphere is great and so far our servers there have been outstanding. It's certainly worth doing to say you did.
(and this may be heresy, but I just don't like Napa Rose)

If you really want to make sure you can eat at the Blue Bayou during your stay at Disneyland it is best to make a reservation. You can make them (I think) 60 days in advance by calling (714) 781-DINE. If you go there thinking you are going to get gourmet food then you will probably be disapointed. If you go there thinking you will get the regular heat lamped food you will be pleasantly surprised. All in all it's a really neat place to eat and I would recommend it :thumbsup2

I love going there for lunch as opposed to dinner. When it is hot and sunny outside, it is so cool to walk into the "night" and hear the crickets, the water, etc. The change from day to night is more dramatic.

It is worth a visit once, if you have never been before.

BTW- I have a menu from there from the 70's I think. The prices were around $5! If only I had a time machine! :rotfl:

Just Don't have the Ribs. totally killed my BB experience.
but my Wife had the porkchop that was good.

make sure you have reservations and get there early if you want a seat by the water. (tell them you'll wait)

Just don't ask me about the rolls!
What is with those rolls? I personally prefer mine a little softer than a rock. To each his own, I guess.

Anyway, (other than the rolls) my family loves BB. It is the one must-do every time we go. Our food has always been very good but I do believe the atmosphere is what makes the visit special. Sometimes service can be slow. (just remind yourself that you are on vacation) And do be prepared to spend a good chunk of money.

Their creme brulee is my favorite dessert!

If you don't mind me asking, what was wrong with the ribs? I have not ordered that dish, as of yet, I have thought about it, but I know that ribs can be a bit messy, which is fine, when you are going to be eating in the privacy of your own humble or not so humble abode. ;)
