we have never been to DL and were wondering if we use the max pass is there any need to do the scan at the kiosks for FPs or do you use both methods?

No with max pass you book all of your passes on your smartphone. But you will need to scan your max pass barcode on your phone at the ride to use it.

You can also scan your ticket, which is linked to MaxPass, so you make the FP on your phone, and then you can scan your ticket at the ride. I find that saves battery and helps if your phone screen is hard to read for whatever reason.

Also: MaxPass is AWESOME!

I suppose you could if you have bad battery life but I would rather get an external battery if I had that issue. Getting my pass out all the time would be a pain.

I'm like the opposite. I find it difficult to get my phone out. I am not one to be using it all the time. I keep my ticket in a wallet insert with the barcode facing out the clear side. That is easier for me. I was just offering an alternative. I did notice quite a few people having trouble scanning their phones, probably because of the brightness or something, so it will vary phone to phone.

Maxpass is wonderful. And being able to scan your ticket instead of your phone is a handy alternative, especially for rides like Soarin where at the second scan at the bottom of the ramp inside you may not have a signal and may be unable to open the app to get the barcode (taking a screenshot of the barcode before entering the queue is another way round this problem). Also if my kids are going on a ride without me that has a second FP scan I would prefer to lend them a ticket than lend them my phone.

Note that you don't HAVE to get your FPs via the app. Even with MaxPass, you can still use the kiosks if you wish - if, for instance, you have members of your party who choose not to get MaxPass, it's better to use the kiosks to make sure everyone gets the same return time.

I didnt use Maxpass in June 2018, I used the regular free Fastpass Machines. I got any Fastpass I wanted and I even stacked Fastpasses in the evening.

I had all of the max passes on my phone and then we would scan our tickets to ride. It is easier to book all of the max passes together and then scan the tickets separately at the ride entrance.
