New to Disney Dining with Question

My family went to DW last December for the very first time. An opportunity to go back this year presented itself to us so we are returning this December. We didn't eat at any of Disney's dining places when we went but definitely want to do so this visit!

My question is this....if you could pick out two sit down restaurants to eat at on Disney property, which ones would it be? Why? We have two little boys, ages 6 and 9, so we want to eat somewhere where they would be thrilled!!!!

There's a wealth of on-property places to choose from. Perhaps you should check out the menus on AllEarsNet.com and see what might best fit your family. Since you have two young boys, two places that come to mind that would be fun are:

1. Chef Mickey's: Great character interaction and the boys will love the monorails gliding overhead. Food is good, not great, IMHO.

2. Boma: Great food for a buffet and the AKL, with it's exotic theme and animal viewing is a great place to visit.

year olds you may see a difference in tatse between the two. We just went with a 6 and 10 year old and the youngest wanted to do characters but the older one acted as if he didn't. He was fine when we actually went to them but he really didn't want to do CM.

Rain Forest Cafe and T-Rex both have atmospheres that should entertain your kids but neither really have that great of food. Biergarten has a fun atmosphere and pretty good food.

Boma is a good suggestion also. The restaurant has an ok environment but if you add in some time to look around the AKL that makes it even more interesting.

We love the Tusker House Breakfast buffet, great selection of breakfast food, great juice and yummy coffee. They had great character interaction and they do a musical parade for the kids.
The other place we go everytime we visit is Crystal Palace...it is a must for ever trip. We usually go lunchtime. They have a great selection of food and my son favorite character.
For a nonbuffet, we like Chefs de France, Jiko, Narcoosee's, Brown Derby, Grand Floridain Cafe, Boma breakfast (not really thrilled with the dinner).

1. Chef Mickey's - Just an awesome character meal (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto and Donald Duck). They encourage a raucous atmosphere, but even grandma and auntie loved it there.

2. Coral Reef - The full wall Aquarium is really neat and the feeling of being underwater is even better than I imagined. We really liked our food there too. This is not a buffet, so a nice break to be served.

If you are paying cash book a late breakfast at Chef Mickey's and count that as your lunch. I'd also suggest CR for lunch, lighter on the wallet and still very good food.

Tusker House Breakfast: The food is good and the character interaction great.

Chef Mickey's: As a previous poster said the food is okay, but it is a fun atmosphere, starring Mickey himself.

I don't know the eating habits of your kids, but the buffets offer a good variety.

I have to agree with pp...Chef Mickeys is the place to go for "thrill"...it is a delight! Kids seem to really enjoy themselves there...I know mine did!

Also...T-Rex at DTD was fantastic! My kids still talk about that place...and their HUGE dessert!! Their eyes when it was brought out...definitely a memory...great atmosphere! We had a wonderfully, friendly waitress...she was great!

We have heard things about Biergarten and the other family we are travelling with asked us if we wanted to go with them one night to that restaurant. What are everyone's thoughts on the Biergarten??? Wondering if they will have food that normal 6 and 9 year-old boys will eat..........

is one of my personal favorites. Yes, your kids will find stuff to eat. There really is a variety of foods to fit most any taste

Sci-Fi Dine In: you sit in booths shaped like cars and the whole experience is made to be like you're eating at an old drive-in. They play some goofy retro videos on their big screen.

50s Prime Time: Place looks like a house and the waitstaff acts like they're a family and interacts with guests as if you're part of the family. The guy we had last year was great (Brother Robert or something I think) and made sure we ate our vegetables before we could have dessert.

Biergarten has really fun live entertainment. A live German band gets on stage (about once an hour) for a 20 minute show & the kids are usually gleefully dancing and singing along. Children are also encouraged to go onto the dance floor and dance- this is fun/funny to watch. Even my non-dancing/non-singing husband is usually singing along. Plus, the inside of the restaurant is really cool looking. You feel as though you're sitting in the middle of a old German town. Biergarten is one of our top faves.

'Ohana has coconut races for the kids & a little bit of live entertainment as well.
