New to contacts!

I tried mono vision with no luck, I drive for a living, and the halo's at night were awful! I tried a few different multifocals before ending up with coopervision, biofinity multifocal.. its kind of like mono vision, but not. The prescription seemed ok, but just a little not right but I couldn't put my finger on it,, both eyes same strengths, but one is near and one is far. (dominant and non dominant)
Well I switch eyes on the near and far and BOOM...awesome.. Once I tweaked it! Called the doc just to make sure I wouldn't hurt my eyes, and the rest is history.
Don't get discouraged, and don't give up. I went to 3 doctors before I was perfectly satisfied. And no I don't think I am "giving a little to get a little" as they say.
Oh, and I am 54

I am so glad to read this, thank you- I was starting to think maybe I was a pain in the butt, I feel stupid to keep going back - I do want to make them work, but I feel like they should be better, I am "better off" than I was, but still not completely right- the night thing is pretty bad, it's hard to judge the car distances with these bursts and don't really drive far with them in, mostly get home and take them out and then do my errands. I am determined to keep trying- the monovision thing I feel like I'm getting use to it, my eyes I feel are not seeing separately, but my left eye is still not clear, always feels a little blurry and when I close right eye it's very blurry - not good for close or far way- I keep thinking that is the eye that cases the bursts too... Nice to hear that maybe I'm not a PIA... :)

I am far sighted, have astigmatism in one eye and have been wearing glasses since approximately age 25. A couple of years ago when presbyopia started affecting me, I finally started wearing contacts at age 48. I call it my mid-life crisis phase because I discovered I was not a good candidate for lasik.

Originally, the doctor had me try the monovision and advised it would take awhile to get used to them. But, I about lost my mind because I absolutely could not see clearly. I finally told her that I had no problem using OTC readers if I could just see while driving, walking, etc. She now has me in a multifocal in one eye and astigmatism in the other and it works perfectly. Since I had to wear glasses all day for over 20 years, it feels glorious to only have to put on 1.0+ readers for reading.

It did take me a few weeks to get used to taking them in and out, but now I am a pro! :p

UGH! Still struggling with these contacts!! Please someone tell me that it will get better! Tried the Mono vision, couldn't drive at night - lots of starbursts - they tried changing the strength, but finally tried the multifocal lens, better but I can ether see distance clearly or close up- not both- Right now I am wearing a pair of mu;tifocal that are kind of "Middle of the road" which is not seriously strong for reading but I can see- still have kind of shadows with letters- and very far away distance is a little blurry- the optamologist keeps telling me that I will not "see as well as I do with glasses" am I expecting too much?? they are only tiny pieces of plastic! UGH! please I need some kind of encouragment!!

I'm 48, and have always worn contacts, with a backup pair of glasses. I've worn multi focal contacts for 2 years. My doctor explained they would be good enough for reading a computer or phone screen, but I might still need reading glasses for newspapers, etc. That was actually pretty accurate. And I agree with your eye doctor about the glasses providing crisper vision in my case. However, I'm very active, and am willing to have a bit of trade-off in order to wear my contacts to the pool, gym, waterparks etc.
