A PP mentioned renting a lens. I just got back from WDW on Sat and came on here to write a review of Kingdom Camera Rentals, who provides rental to WDW visitors. I'm a Nikon gal, and rented a ~$800 wide angle (10-24mm) from them for less than $40 for the week. It's a lens I probably wouldn't use much typically, so I'd probably never consider buying it, but it sure was fun to use for the week, and quite affordable. Not sure if it's still there, but there was a 20% off code on the DisneyPhotographyBlog, which I used. If you're staying on site, she provides free delivery & pickup, which went off without a hitch. She has a decent variety of Canon & Nikon lenses. I highly recommend them! Good luck!
I'm well aware of the prices of lenses. I quote prices from manufacturer's sites and hence; MSRP. Canon USA was the source of those prices.
I can buy a 70-200 f4 on eBay for <$600 right now. This wasn't a discussion on prices in my post but rather to make a point that you get what you pay for, IMO.
The CANON MSRP on the F4L non IS is $710 ($709.99), and since it's introduction in 1999 the MSRP on the lens has never exceeded $710. Link to Canon Website (where curiously enough it is also available for roughly $615).
Perhaps the prices you are seeing quoted on whatever website you are 'quoting' are not in US Dollars?
