Transportation is trying an experiment at Typhoon Lagoon. Starting about a half hour prior to Park Closing, buses will go only to Downtown Disney terminal. They will all load from Load Zone Three (normally Contemporary, Polynesian and Saratoga Springs). This will allow people to go shopping or eat at DTD, or connect with a bus directly to their Resort.

Prior to this time the normal afternoon schedule will be followed with all buses from DTD to a Resort stopping at TL enroute.

Interesting...I wish they'd try something similar with BB. Ive always found it a bit annoying to have to stop there going to and from Ak. Just seems odd to have them group a waterpark with a theme park and annoying when trying to get rope drop or reservations. But hey its Disney I try not to complain about that kinda stuff too much

 If I were staying at WL, and took a bus to TL directly from WL, and found out on the return that I had to go thru DTD (as in getting off the bus and making a connection to a bus back to WL), I think I'd be a bit put out.

The purpose is to prevent getting Downtown Disney to Resort buses stuck in the traffic jam coming down from Typhoon Lagoon.

It would be a good idea to switch to the separate TL-DTD loop before thunderstorms TL closures too.

~Thanks for the update! I don't know what to make of this, sounds interesting! :goodvibes

I can appreciate that, thanks for clarification.

But I have to wonder how much time using DTD as a resort-bus hub will add to the journey back to the hotel.

The traffic signal at the exit of TL operates on a fairly quick cycle for those leaving the park and having a bunch of (relative to a car) slow to react and move buses in the line only exacerbates what is already a bad traffic situation. This could be a good idea, but they will need to make sure there are enough resort buses at DTD at fairly short intervals to keep guests that are already tired from a long day at the water park from becoming too irritable.

Question?

In the morning do they still go from your resort to DTD and then on to TL?

We plan to get breakfast at Wolfgang Puck in DTD before we continue on to TL.

I think that the real solution for Typhoon Lagoon traffic is to widen the entrance to two lanes and using one of them during the closing peak for contraflow (wrong way) buses. At the bottom an officer will let the buses out first and what is left of the traffic light cycle is for cars. Or the officer would usurp the straight across green the other way (for Downtown Disney to TL, no Disney buses use that platform any more) for contraflow buses turning left out of TL and the opposing cars may have to wait another cycle.

The TL intersection, like the Hollywood Studios intersection, is hobbled by the fact it is the only way out of the park and also the traffic light has to be shared four ways. An interesting way of increasing efficiency is to allow only left and right turns for the park exiting traffic and the opposite street. "Straight across" traffic would jog to/from the next intersection (Swan/Dolphin or Planet Hollywood respectively). Then the traffic light would be a 3 way signal.

In the morning the route is Resort >> TL >> DTD >> Resort. This is because the morning crowds are going to TL and not DTD.

Does this apply also to the SOG bus?
edit, never mind, the SOG bus loop already goes to DTD from TL. my bad.

So we have to get a bus wearing our swim wear and get off at DTD to transfer to a bus to go to our resort:confused3 That stinks. Are they then increasing the buses from DTD to the resorts.

We never change at the Water Parks we just throw our cover ups on and change at the resort.

I was wondering why the cast member at TL told me not to bother looking ta the bus numbering map when I left on Sunday. I didn't unnderstand what he meant about everyone goes to DTD... now I do. I always drive there because I have a car but I remember when I was a child and taking the bus in my wet swim suit and freezing! I think they need to make some big signs that explain that people will be going to DTD so people know!

Yea, I want to go shopping in my wet cold swimsuit from TL. The reason i stay on property is so i won't have to change at the park.

I think that this is an odd decision. I'm always wiped out after a day at the waterparks and I want to go to my resort and rest. We MIGHT then go out shopping and dining after changing clothes.

I think that driving to the waterparks is the best idea though.

Eessh...The only thing worse than getting on one bus after spending the day at a water park, is getting on two buses. Driving is definitely the way to go here.

CF, thanks for the info. :)
