This is now in my Cloud.

Last year, I had a CM at the IG, give me a spiel, about how Disney no longer used price bridging. I walked over to GR and upgraded my ticket (via bridging) with no issues whatsoever. This is the only problem, that I ever had...just a blip. I hope this remains true, after my next visit.

I upgraded my UT ticket, bought before the price increase, on Tuesday from 5 to 6 days and like many others have reported, had some initial trouble but was able to get the upgrade for $10.69, the current difference between a 5 and 6 day ticket with tax. The first CM, at DHS guest services, scanned a ticket and first told me it was going to be $54! When I insisted that was wrong, she went out back to talk to someone and came out to try again. She pressed some things on her screen but was clearly confused and went out back again to get another CM to help. He showed her what to do and seemed a little annoyed that he had to be showing her but whatever. Seems like if the want to allow resellers they should fix their upgrades process.

Magic Your Way (MYW) tickets are the tickets we're discussing.

Those are, in general, the tickets sold by authorized WDW ticket resellers, and in WDW Resort packages, and at the WDW gates, and at Disney Stores, and on-line and over the phone from Disney.

Cheshire Figment's info that mentions "Promo Package Tickets"
means the Magic Your Way tickets
that are sold in WDW Resort Packages.
The upgrade procedure for those tickets would be the same for all
valid MYW tickets bought at a "discount."
(WDW Resort Package tickets are considered to be sold at a discount, even though
the average guest at WDW doesn't know just what discount that may be.)

That's why so many of us here can't just accept that there IS a "new policy" without some substantial
"official" word on the subject.


And, again ANYTHING is possible... I'm just not sure yet what the "possible" actually is in this case.

But have we ever had issues with guests being told they couldn't upgrade AT ALL at all four parks? Forget about the bridging, we're having people being told that they can't upgrade at all. If that has been the case before, then I won't worry so much, but if this is something new, then something new is going on.

1- I have seen past reports of ticket CM's who said that "discount tickets" can't be upgraded.

2- But, I do think that "something" may be "new."
The point of all of my long-winded posts trying to deconstruct the situation from
the very limited info that has been posted is to try to make logical sense out of this possible "new deal."

I've tried to post the info that Disney is not losing money in upgrading discounted tickets, as they have ALREADY "lost" their full-price income from the tickets by wholesaling the tickets to the "authorized resellers" in the first place. And, that those "authorized resellers" INCLUDE the resorts (via Disney Travel) and the Disney Stores.

Why Disney would want to destroy the business of their own cadre of loyal ("non-Disney") authorized resellers (like UT, Male Leaf Tickets, AAA, etc.) when it is Disney who set up the wholesale marketing... is just beyond logic.

But they know when the reseller bought the ticket and that is what matters. UT is saying that the guest will get credit for the gate price of the ticket at the time the ticket was purchased from Disney.

UT isn't actually saying whether the guest will get gate price at time of guest purchase or time the ticket is sold. It is MouseSavers that is saying that the guest will get gate price at the time the ticket is sold to the third party reseller. BUT, MouseSavers has an affiliate relationship with UT, so it is safe to assume they are sharing info (using same source) and saying the same thing.

To be technical too, UT is saying that HERE, on this thread. In their early emails that they sent, they said that you will only get the value that Disney sold the ticket to the reseller for, giving you the gift to pay the mark up twice, plus negating any discount received. Then they sent a correction email saying you'd get current gate price. Then they came here to say current at time of purchase. I feel bad for all those that think they will get current gate price because they have yet to send another correction email. If what they are saying here is even true. Not everyone comes here. not everyone got the info here. Remember, the whole thing started by All Ears saying nothing about price, but that upgrades period would no longer be allowed.

Remember that there was another price increase in February. I didn't realize that either! So, your tickets aren't worth gate price (depending on how this all works out).

That's why there are two sets of calculations. First calculation is for the increase last June, although I bought after that increase and second is for the February increase.

To know that, you'd have to know when the reseller you purchased from (there are many more beyond UT) purchased your ticket. The difference is the gate price (if you've used it) on that day and the gate price of the day you do the upgrade.

It is noted on the Ticket History web page that prices do not include tax, unless noted. Allears has another page called Ticket Price Comparison with current prices, and that chart includes tax. So don't mix and match from the two charts. Do all your calculations from the Ticket History chart. Multiply by 1.065 to get the price with tax.

This covers all price increases going back to the 1970s. Most charts have 2 prices listed for each year, like $84/$89. That means the price before an increase that particular year, and the price after. If you can approximate when in the year you bought tickets, this would help narrow it down. Also, if you purchased tickets within days after a price increase, they are probably dated on the bar code from previous to the price increase, and worth the lower price.

I got the prices from allears.net. Click on Planning and then on the left hand side they have a heading for ticket information. They have sub-headings for ticket prices and ticket history.

Thanks! I actually made a list of the tickets I have (photocopied them) and I printed out the receipts from UT from when I bought them. So, at least if nothing else I am informed of when I purchased and what I paid. The only ones I don't have the original tickets of were some 10 day Non expire PH &WP that had added to my KTTW card a few years ago. I still have the photocopy of the original ticket and my KKTW card (with 5 days remaining and water parks too).
