In February last year, Disney fan blogger Jim Hill introduced the rumor about "Night Kingdom," a planned high-end Disney theme park, with pricing along the lines of Sea World's Discovery Cove.
Other sites duly reported the "Night Kingdom" rumor. Some credited Jim Hill. Some didn't.
Scott Powers at the Orlando Sentinel reported on Jim Hill's rumor. But Powers never claimed that there was any truth to the rumor, only that Jim Hill had written about it.
Jim Hill has gotten a lot of mileage out of "Night Kingdom." He provided detailed descriptions of what guests would experience. Later, he wrote about cutbacks to "Night Kingdom," and how the name changed to "Jungle Trek."
On a podcast, Jim Hill even claimed that the only reason "Night Kingdom" wasn't announced at the Disney annual meeting last year is because he -- Jim Hill -- had published the story.
As far as I know, there has been no independent corroboration of Jim Hill's rumor and Jim Hill's subsequent updates. There has been no concept art and no comments by Imagineers. There has definitely not been any sort of announcement from Disney, such as a press release or media packet.
At this point, we can choose to believe as much or as little of Jim Hill's information about "Night Kingdom" as we wish. How much was genuine, leaked information from someone within Disney who would actually know about such a project? How much was conjecture by Jim Hill, based on kernels of leaked information? And how much just came from the imagination of Jim Hill?
