I saw this on the DIS and realized that it may impact some people traveling with children with disabilities. The new rules states that if a stroller cannot fold compactly or is over 20 lbs, it cannot be gate checked.
I know a lot of people use larger strollers or special needs strollers for children with disabilities. I know a lot of people, including airline employees may not recognize the difference between a regular stroller and a special need stroller, so this may begin to cause problems with some people.
I am not sure how AA wants this handled, but I would let the airline know that you will be gate checking a stroller that is used as a wheelchair. Perhaps even a doctors note explaining that you need the stroller all the way to the gate.
If the stroller folds and weighs less than 20 lbs, you should be all set.
Just wanted to give people a heads up.
