There's a new storm brewing off African coast. Anyone know how long it takes for those to get to Carribean? I am wondering if/how it might impact our 7 day western leaving today.

There is already a named storm out there as reported on the weather channel this morning. Begins with a D obviously but can't remember the name. You may want to click on the weather channel site and look under tropical update. Good luck on your cruise - hope all goes well!

The new Tropical Depression mentioned above will be name Danielle if it reaches Tropical Storm status. Based on information on the Weather Channel this morning, that storm would be arriving in the Carribean late next week (i.e. Thurs. or Fri.).

It takes about a week for a storm to come from Africa to the Caribbean. You should be ok in regards to that storm.

From the projected track on the Tropical Prediction Site it looks like the Magic shouldn't have any trouble on Grand Cayman or Cozumel but might experience some turbulence getting back from Cozumel to Castaway Cay. Depends on what Earl does after Tuesday. You can bet I'll be tracking this one to see what he does.

I don't know, I'm more concerned about two storms after Earl. Sure, it hasn't even formed yet, but when it does, it will be named "Gaston", and it seems that Gaston may have a bit of a score to settle with Disney. ;)

Does anyone else find this odd that there have been this many storms in less than 3 weeks?????? This seems much more than this time in a long time. UGH - we go in a few weeks!!!!! MAKE THEM STOP PLEASE!!! This really terrifies me!

we went on one of the first 7 day cruises in august 2000, i believe it was a week later in august than it is this year and we were chased away form virgin islands by hurricane dean i believe it was, i know it was a d so it was the fourth of the season, so it looks like this is about normal for a hurricane season.

How true is that! :rotfl:

Cruise04, before you get too upset, I'd like to quote an earlier poster who was on the Mystery cruise several years ago that went to different ports to avoid a hurricane. The captain reportedly said one evening when he was announcing their change of itinerary the next day, "Only a fool would sail into a hurricane...and I'm no fool." I really think you're safer on the ship than on land. Now getting TO and FROM the ship might be a little iffier.
