New Stitch Ride At Mk

To be blunt, it stinks. Think "Alien Encounter" with Stitch instead of the alien. Even the story is a mess. Stitch is part of some prisoner transport process, but it is never explained why he is a prisoner. Confusing for adults and terrifying for small children.

I keep hearing rumors that they are going to close it down (it has been open less than 6 months) and pour more money in to try and fix the problems. We'll see....

I agree. Did it once, don't care to do it again.

My family is going to Disney 3/2 - 3/9 and DD,5 wants to go on this ride so badly. After reading all of these comments here and on other sites I am very reluctant to take her on. What do you Think. She is not really scared easy, but I'm still not really sure about this ride. She also wants to ride Dinosaur, I think we'll send DH on that one first to test it out for her.

Well I thought it was cute and my 8 year old who loves Stitch went on it 3 times. Twice with us and once by himself during EMH. My 6 year old did not care for the dark but did fine. I think the story was pretty obvious if you listen to the preshow. They transport the mischievous experiments into holding tubes which is like there little jail. There is an alert that a level 3 (really mischievous) is about to be transfered and all of the guests are new recruits that work there. They take you into the big room and the bars lower over your shoulders. Then they transport in Stitch who then escapes from his platform while they are doing scans on him and he runs around the room causing all sorts of mischief. It was no Alien Encounter which I could not take my kids on because it was too scary, but it was cute and Stitch was neat. I think the demographic they were going for will like it for the most part. We enjoyed it and thought it was cute.

I too thought it stinks. No good story line, just a cheesey reuse of the AE facility. Did it once, and until it's closed for a year and done right, we won't be going back - was of time.

I haven't been on it yet, and I too have heard lots of negative comments about it. The way I see it, everybody has different opinions! Lots of people hated the changes on the Imaginations ride at Epcot, but my family loved it! So my advice to you disnygrl30 is to just try it when you go and enjoy yourselves!

If you end up hating it, then at least you tried it for yourself. ;)

Have a fun trip!

Not trying to start a debate, but the biggest question that I had was WHY is Stitch a prisoner? It really could have been explained-away with a few lines of dialogue.

And, to introduce Stitch into the attraction and then make it so child-unfriendly was very poor decision.

Thanks so much everyone!
I guess the best thing is you go on it and then you'll know since everyone has their own opinion of the ride. My boys are teenagers so who knows what they will think.

IMHO, it stunk and my 8 year old wasn't impressed and my 5 year old cried the whole time.

I think everyone should try a ride at least once cause everyone is different BUT I think you should go on it BEFORE you decide to put a small child on it that scares easily.

Did the ride post a sign or did the cast member mention that small children could get scared?

There are signs. As for CMs helping warn parents, I'm sure that's spotty.

I'm not a big fan of blaming Disney ("The Man") for my children's individual experiences. We can't hold Disney accountable for the reactions of every 3yo to every attraction.

But, I suspect many parents follow an equation similar to this:

Stitch + 35" height limit (now 38") = Child-Friendly Ride

Any parent reading these posts with a moderately timid child under the age of 6 or 7 really needs to try the attraction first. Older kids may or may not like it, but at least they shouldn't be terrified when the lights go out.

We liked it okay, it was at least as good as AE. My youngest DD really got a kick out of it, we think it is better if you sit nearer the front. :earsboy:

I remember when we made our very first trip and my DH and I went on Alien Encounter by ourselves first. Of course we didn't think it was bad and found some of it rather funny but when the boys went on they got scared. They were 7 and 9 at the time. Of course they both never went back on for a couple of years and then they went on it all the time after that so it is a matter of age.
But of course when we go we have to try it once.

It's not a ride. The preshow is a walkthrough and then you sit in a theater with an automatic over-the-shoulder harness attached to your seat. The harness is part of the special effects and is most likely not intended as a safety restraint, although it does not permit movement. The theater does not move.

Didn't like it much at all. I liked Alien Encounter, maybe that's the problem. It's Alien Encounter with a cute factor (they just eliminated the alien and substituted Stitch). The storyline is pretty much "We're assuming everyone's seen the movie and remembers the part where Stitch is held in the detention center."

The robot in the preshow doesn't have Tim Curry's voice anymore, he's now more reminiscent of the Skipper from Gilligan's Island.

If the kids are afraid of the dark or loud noises or both, do not take them in. Much of the special effects action takes place in complete darkness. The harness prevents parents from comforting the kids and makes it difficult to remove them from the room if they're really bothered (I saw a parent have to pry their child out of the seat the one and only time I saw this attraction). Kids who love Stitch and don't mind the dark will probably enjoy it. Adults who are not huge Stitch fans will most likely be thoroughly bored.

I agree with most of these posts. The ride is basically AE with Stitch instead of the other alien. It also upset my GF's 4 1/2 year old son. He likes Stitch but this ride is not at all like the movie.

On the plus side, one mention of sending him back in there always managed to stop any whining or complaining that may have been going on. LOL.

When everyone says it "stinks", are you saying that literally? That's what my 13yo DD thought. The burps etc that you could actually smell totally grossed her out and she said she never wanted to see it again.
