Does anyone know if DCL will be doing a premear for the new Star Wars Awakens movie o. The ships?

We will be on the fantasy Dec 12-19 2015 sailing
The movie is out in theatres on dec 17th

I know DCL usually has Disney movies the day they come out on land...but there are mixed reports online that say the Star Wars movie won't be premeared at sea
Don't know how true that is or not

Has Any USA based disers out there called DCL to confirm this?.

Thanks!

We sail 10 days later and I am hoping it will be on there. With the SW cruises and them adding the Millennium Falcon to one of the kids clubs on the Dream, I would think it is a sure bet.

You'll be able to confirm the films being shown on your cruise about two weeks ahead of time. I'll be really surprised if Star Wars does not show.

I would definitely think that the new SW movie premiering in December would be on the ships as well. I've been to several movie premiers on the ships but nothing as big as SW will be.

I would say there is a highly likely chance it will premiere onboard. We were on the Dream when Avengers: Age of Ultron premiered and they showed it at midnight, the last night of the cruise.

We sailed last June and they showed the preview of the movie. So I'm sure they will show it

what we have been reading was that DCL will delay the 'premear' until the Star Wars cruises...as an extra added Star Wars bonus for those sailing the SW cruises.

again it's the internet...and not sure how accurate this is or not

personally don't see why they would not show it on same day...as that's always been in DCL marketing

sorry left out...

here is what the DCL website says on the Star Wars Day at Sea information:

  • Screenings of the Star Wars films—including the only at-sea screening of Episode VII—plus episodes of Disney’s animated series Star Wars Rebels
  • Star Wars celebrities and insiders share stories and sign autographs

I think people are taking the "only cruise with Star Wars VII The Force Awakens" a little too literal in the media packets. Disney has a tendency to say that when they mean the line as a whole is the only line to show that movie. Basically they are controlling the rights to this movie and if you want to sail and watch Star Wars it will have to be on a Disney Cruise not just a Star Wars cruise. Similar language made people think you had to get the Star Wars Chase Disney Visa Rewards Card to get the SW meet and greet but really all Chase Disney Visa Rewards Card member will get it if they chose a SW card or Disney card doesn't matter.

I wouldn't be shocked if each boat has a mini release party on board at the theater that night. Disney knows this movie is going to be massive.

Yes, I agree that Disney knows (and is doing their best) to make this movie MASSIVE. They are creating the hype and demand and pushing it nostop until the movie is out....and they will keep going after it's out.

Disney has too much on the line & at stake for this to fail or flop.
and they will do whatever it takes to make it a success

I certainly would like to think the DCL will have a release party...but just not sure
again too many conflicting reports..but that's the trouble with the internet today.

I don't see why DCL will hold out for the SW cruises

If Disney plays their cards right....they can easily make back the money they spent to buy Lucasfilm and the franchise off these new SW movies, merch, and so forth
at least that's what allot of the financial gurus out there are predicting
and give the current state of DIS stock and the ever need to increase revenue...Disney knows it has to perform

They are already making most of their money back on the merch for this film alone. On Force Friday they had a net of 1 Billion alone. I can't imagine what is going to happen in the week between this movie premier and Christmas. Lucas really under sold Lucasfilm at the 4 billion price point. Disney is going to make more than that off of just this one film and still have 2 others plus a plethora of Star Wars Rebels and other things to work off of as well.

That's the way I read it, the new Star Wars movie will only be shown on the Star Wars Day at Sea cruises. That's taken straight off the DCL website. So, it sounds like it will not be shown in December or any other sailing except those 16 Stat Wars cruises.

This thread has come up several times (no offense to the OP!) and I think people seem to be split on it due to the wording on the Star Wars cruises. As it was mentioned in another thread, all the DCL ships technically have the "only at sea screening of Episode VII" (or other premEAR's). Unless they are doing something we aren't aware of, I don't see why they won't show the movie on release as a premEAR at sea like they always do. We are sailing on 12/21 so we plan on seeing it but we won't be devastated if it doesn't happen (ok slightly disappointed lol).

I believe it's still two weeks prior to sailing before we can confirm it and hopefully then they will advise the sailing prior to ours if it's a yes or no (or surprise). I was reading suggestions on Twitter and love the ideas of doing like a FP system or like they do the character meet and greets and picking an assigned time to control the crowds and so everyone can see it if they chose to. Hopefully if they are showing in December they will run the movie more often than they do some of the other premiers.

So we shall see and fingers crossed!

Heather

I just can't see them delaying the movie until the Star Wars cruises. That would create a whole lot of ill will with no gain of any kind for DCL. No one is going to book a SW cruise JUST to watch SW on a ship. And anyone who loves SW isn't going to wait to watch it on a ship weeks later. Meanwhile everyone on those December sailings are used to (and expect to be) seeing the latest Disney movies. There's no downside to showing it as a premear.
And I agree that people may be taking the literature a little too literally--at least, too literally when it comes to official Disney pr. I mean, we all know Disney has a gift for making policies clear as mud.
