New Soarin :/

Just watched it! I was hesitant to because of ruining the surprise factor, but I'm glad I did. I was SO relieved that they didn't change the music, and it looks great to me. Great job, Disney! However, I still will miss the old California video. I don't care how great the new is. Bring us both options please!!

This new "film" has a LOT of CGI.
I'm not sure that I'm a fan of that.

The original idea of Soarin' was to simulate actually hang-gliding (or free-flying) over actual terrain.
With so very much "enhanced-with-animation" scenes, the new presentation has much more artificial feel.

For years, many guests have complained of the lack of "transitions" in the original film.
It was mostly hard cuts with a few "soft cuts" (dissolves lasting just a very few, maybe 3-6, frames.)

The new film has made nearly al of the transitions CGI animated-enhanced and I think many are quite jarring.

But, the MUSIC SCORE is wonderful!
Agreed! Very well said!

Yeesh... I want the pirates of Caribbean ride at 27:00
My son went to the opening Trial Operations day. He said Pirates was the absolute best! Tron was cool. Soarin was good. Smells were there but he couldn't remember any. Lol.
He said all the merchandise is super cute and the food was good. "Just like Disney World"
We plan on going May 2018 when he graduates!

Well, in truth, they DID change the music, but it is based very closely on the original Jerry Goldsmith themes.
Sadly, Mr. Goldsmith passed away a few years ago, so the job of creating the score for the new Soarin' had to go to a different composer.
I have to say that this new score is quite a bit richer in tone, with new counterpoint instrumentation that showcases the basic theme in a more lustrous, grander style in many sections.

Bravo to the new composer!
(It sounds to me like the composer might be Bruce Broughton, but I have yet to see the new credits.)

Will be interesting to see what scents they include!!!!

I loved the California version, but I think the "around the world" video of this one makes more sense at Epcot. I love the score, and am glad it's similar to the original. I look forward to seeing the new one in person, because watching it on my computer screen just doesn't compare.

I wish they left the one in ca alone and changed the one in wdw. Im trying to not watch any videos about it before my trip in september. Itll be my kids first time riding it ever. Hope they like it.

Eww CGI. That stinks. I dont like the look of CGI really.

With so much artificial CGI in the new film,
I'd call it more "Jungle Cruise" than "Safari."

;)

I'm pleased with it! I think that they picked some great footage for their scenes and the music is fantastic. I could do without all of the things flying at the screen, but am hopeful that will be different when I see it in person. I'm excited about what smells they might have. I'm betting that the pine and beach smells stick around. Going to miss the smell of oranges, but maybe they will be replaced with lavender in Paris. Who knows? I do wish it ended over a Disney park (especially WDW), but maybe it will. I also wish that they had kept Soarin' Over California at DCA. In all, though, I'm happy with it.

I won't watch until I'm actually on the ride. I did love the old film's contents, but the "cigarette burns" and other imperfections were getting far too prevalent to overlook.

This is exactly what I was thinking by about 1 minute in. Too much CGI. I want to see the real thing. Not some cartoon enhanced version.

The dust on the image were artifacts of film-strip projection.
The new digital projection has eliminated that, even on the old original version.

Good to know. Thanks!

Is there any small chance that there will be a soft opening with the new film the weekend before? My last day at Epcot is the 12th and it is not scheduled to open till the 17th.....

I highly doubt it, since I'm reading that Disney has some sort of contract with Shanghai to debut the new Soarin' at Shanghai DL on their opening day. They have to show it there first, before anywhere else, which is why it will open at WDW on June 17th. Our last day at WDW will be at Epcot on June 12th too. I am REALLY hoping they will at least show the old version. I would LOVE to experience that for one last time.

:-( I tried to watch the video but all I am getting looks to be 92 mins of a video game. Maybe my work firewall is blocking the actual video.

I can think of a few ideas for "smells". I don't want to give anything away to those that are waiting to watch. But, they can still fit in the salty ocean air smell, maybe some floral smells specific to flowers/plants native to the countries we're flying over, I can also see them using a AKL type smell, and a tropical smell (think coconut or suntan lotion smell). Just my thoughts, I can be way, way off though. That said, I am definitely going to miss the original smells!

Give it a minute or 2. The video games are ads in the beginning. The video is 92 mins long once the ads are over.
