I just wanted to post some information from friends of mine in the hospitality industry.
Three friends of mine own businesses in non smoking areas. One restaurant, one a bar and one bowling alley. Two of those businesses are in the same area. One is in a completely different area. They were furious when the laws went into effect banning smoking from public places. They thought it might be the end of their businesses and their livelyhood. The bar owner and the bowling alley owner were particularly furious and scared. After all, smoking is synonymous with those two types of places.
Guess what happened? Busness was down for all three intitially but after a brief slow down all three are doing much better than before. Non smokers who were driven out of those places by the smoke returned. Cleaning costs were down for these business owners. No more profesional cleaners required to eliminate the smoke stains. Non smokers came out in support of this ban. Families returned.
This is exactly why I think WDW is going to go smoke free. It would help their bottom line and be seen as a socially conscious decision.
Smokers are in the vast minority. Majority rules in a democratic society. Those rights are further deteriorated when that right affects the health and well being of others.
This 3 smoking buildings going to 1 1/2 is phase one.
