While we’re on the topic of Epcot, I have one more exciting announcement: an all-new table service restaurant will be coming to the Japan Pavilion in World Showcase, offering guests a signature dining experience inspired by the natural beauty of Japan. The setting will draw from both nature and takumi, which means “artisan” in Japanese, and the relationship between Japanese craftsmanship and the natural world will be evident throughout the space. This new restaurant will be operated by Mitsukoshi USA, which operates the merchandise, restaurants (Teppan Edo and Tokyo Dining), and kiosks in the Japan Pavilion. Once completed, the restaurant will add to the rich tapestry of authentic cultural experiences available to guests in World Showcase.

Will this be aswell as the other two restaurants in Japan or will it be replacing one?

I doubt it will replace either TD or TE since a closure of one would probably necessitate down time for the other since both are on the same floor. Given the description of the new restaurant I wonder about Katsuri Grill which was NOT mentioned in the blog and is in a fantastic natural setting that seems fairly easy to expand on. I guess we'll know best when the permits start coming out.

Is Japanese food that popular? I can't imagine them have 3 TS restaurants now. Wow
Japanese food rates in the top 5 cuisines by interest and restaurants in the USA. When I was growing up sushi was just the stuff jokes were made about and now you can find it in many American supermarkets.

Personally, I think the Japan Pavillion has the best food offerings across the board at Epcot - along with France. I've never had a bad meal at either TS restaurants, and the QS is outstanding. Plus, Kaki Gori is the best on a hot day. So, they can keep adding as many restaurants and food offerings as they want and I'll keep going. :yay:

This is exciting, but I really hope they don't close Katsura Grill. We love to go up there for lunch!

The Japan pavilion is my favorite at EPCOT. Definitely looking forward to what food/style will be offered.

I don't think Katsura Grill is on the chopping block because of this addition. It's a QS location, and fits a different billing then a TS would.

I’m thinking the same thing. It seems like a lot and there are so many cuisines not already covered, but what do I know?

Oh so after it gets put in there will be one genuinely authentic cultural experience available to guests in World Showcase.

That is what I was thinking as well!

Japan gets three table service restaurants but Disney still can’t find a way to get me some Greek food.

The entire Japan pavilion is operated by a Japanese company, Mitsukoshi, so presumably they are the ones deciding to add a signature restaurant. All of the Mitsukoshi restaurants are typically busy, so it seems like a pretty wise business move.
