We've tried those, too, and they can help. Also, DH has plantar fasciitis (thus, the Keens) and he's found that taping his arches (even just one strip of sports tape, like Coban) can be a big help. I've tried this as well and can confirm that it does help.

Regarding the Smartwool socks, I think this is the best known brand, but there definitely are less expensive brands out there. I got mine on sale and they've held up quite well. They get lots of use and are over a year old and they still work great.

If you are prone to blisters, use body glide on your feet.

I switch out between my sneakers and Toms and my Dr. Weil sandals when I'm there, sometimes mid-day.

I've heard that Sketchers Walkers are very comfortable but NOT for long distances or all day. Has anyone found that?

The GoWalks work great for me at DL for the whole trip, but I have multiple pairs and always switch shoes during our midday breaks. They're super-comfy and don't pinch or rub anywhere.

The best are the ones they call "Super Socks." Not the most adorable, but not totally fugly either. I have 2 pair of these:

I couldn't wear my Sketchers Go Walks all day. They are soft and squishy, but they aren't supportive enough and my feet hurt if I walk in them too much.

I love my Keens (Venice H2 and Whisper), and alternate between them and my Asics.

Speaking of Keens... I just bought these for only $60. For those who know how much Keens usually cost, this is a smoking deal. The reviews say they are the most comfortable show. I hope so...

I'm supposed to get them only a week or so before we leave. Looks like I'll have to break them in REALLY quickly.
