We had our fourth Segway tour today and when we showed up were informed that this was the first day the tours were getting the new i2 models!! We had hoped we might get to try one out in Innoventions, but didn't yet expect them on the tour so it was a real treat.

The new models are just as fun as the old ones. It's a bit harder to get used to standing in one place at first as the stick doesn't give you any help with stability, but turning is definitely more intuitive when you are moving around. I'll pull the pic and video off my camera and upload it later or when we return and will post an update with links.

By the way - it was quite cool this morning but has turned into a beautiful afternoon! We couldn't have asked for a better turn in the weather this week. Crowds aren't bad at all and we've rediscovered why we always come in October!

Fun! Do these happen to go 9mph rather than the 5 mph? :rolleyes1

We did the tour on 10/3 and it was the highlight of our trip. Will look forward to your pictures!

Sandy :)

While they have the capibility to go up to 12, just like the older models, but they do still regulate these to a top speed of 6 mph. It uses a different system rather than the keys and though I tried to use the menus to get around it, they have it hard-coded into the computers. :(

Can you guys elaborate on what happens on this tour? I'm considering it for our Feb trip. Thanks!

We are looking forward to taking the tour again, it was very much enjoyed.

I have signed up for the trip next month and now my 70 year old aunt wants to go on it with me! What do you think? She is pretty agile, but 70....

As long as your aunt can maintain side to side balance and can stand for a few hours, she'll be fine. The Segway does most of the work for you.

The tour consists of two parts - the first 30 minutes or so you watch a safety video, get a helmet, and learn to ride the Segway indoors with two instructors. You practice going, stopping, turning, going up and down hills and over obstacles. After a short break, you ride outside and go around the World Showcase, stopping at most of the pavilions for some information and behind the scenes info. You do get a stop in Italy for some free time and to get photos. At the end of the tour, you get a special pin you can only get by going on the tour. It's about an hour and a half total and loads of fun!

Just bumping since I've added my pic from the tour to my signature. If anyone has any questions, just ask!

Thank you so much for telling us about the upgrade. I wanted to get the tour for my husband for Christmas (who has done the tour before), but only if they had the new ones. Woo-hoo! He'll be so excited!

How much it is?
yeah I was wondering this also. How much does this cost? AND how far ahead should I book this tour if I wanted to take it?

Thats what I'm curious about as well.
I saw CMs using them and how much I wanted to just have one for around the parks, they look fun and something I'd want to try.

Did they mention the new tour that is scheduled to be run at the campgrounds?

We had heard that by late November 2006 or early December that the off road model segway would be used for a tour there.

Thanks so much for the info! I am going on the tour in two weeks and it's great to hear that they are using the new ones.

We are going on this tour (I think it is $80 with a discount 15%?? by using the Disney Visa card) next week. I am a little apprehensive but very excited! Will let you know the details.

we did the simply segway when we went in Sept...we did the free trail thing and loved it!!! To the point where we called as soon as we were done with the trail. Simply Segway was the only thing what was available. We loved that and I cant wait to do the 2 hour tour...

Wondering the same thing. Anyone hear any updates on this tour?

Thanks Dan for posting the link with all the info. That's just where I was going to point everyone. No word from the staff on the Ft Wilderness tour, but they did have one of the off-road style Segways on display in the training area. I actually meant to ask them about it but forgot.
