New Security measures going into effect Dec 17, 2015 at WDW

I never have any bags and I carry no weapons so I'm good!

I'm from New York we have medal detectors in our schools, airports, courts ect so it's no big deal.

I'm just hoping with the change it acts as a deterrent from people carrying weapons at all to the park

I only put my car key and cell phone in the plastic container at Disney and Universal when asked to empty my pockets and go thru the metal detector. The only thing I keep in my pocket (and never remove) is my license and AP for either park. Since its a "metal" detector and not a scanner I have never set it off. They have no clue anything else is in my pocket(s).

I just thought of this; If costumes are banned for anyone over 14, does this mean the end of Dapper Day? I mean, a lot the the outfits people wear could be considered a costume, just as a plastic orange tipped musket could be considered a weapon.

I'm imagining that bulky costumes that are home made are a great way to hide something nefarious, and a large cape with a hood could easily hide someone's identity. Having gone to Dapper Day I can only see a 50's style poofy skirt as a way to hide something!! Otherwise, people wear regular clothes but just a bit fancier.

Does anyone think the Disney Parks have received a credible threat or are they just being proactive?

I'd hazard a guess at proactive, although places like that (and other large tourist attractions/gathering places of lots of people/places seen as representations of "capitalism and greed") are always seen as targets, unfortunately.

I'd also think that once one park did it, the others were pretty much "forced" to do it by their lawyers. Imagine if a park didn't do it and some incident occurred there. The injured parties would claim negligence on the part of park owners (who have the deep pockets) in not implementing tightened security when other parks did.
