New Security Measures At The Parks

Clearly, any terrorists that think about targeting WDW have no idea what they are getting themselves into. Do they KNOW the kind of people they'll be up against? Have they seen the level of planning we're capable of? How organized we are? How PISSED OFF most people seem to already be when they're there? (LOL!)
Go ahead, terrorists. You'll be stampeded by thousands of angry mamas and beaten over the head with giant park bags, run down by hundreds of ECVs driven by cranky old folks or the completely insane children on their laps, and mobbed by a demographic of people who dropped a small fortune to have a good time and will take down and destroy anyone foolish enough to get in the way of that! 30,000 disgruntled Disney guests? No terrorist in their right mind would take that chance.

I don't think these are going to help anything. If anything, it's going to open up Disney to discrimination and harassment lawsuits.

These are the same type of things that have been deemed "inferior" for airports and the new ones haven't helped. I'm not a threat to anyone, I don't carry weapons, and don't even LOOK like a threat, but my normal clothing (being loose and having metal as I'm plus sized) sets off these and the scatter machines so I get patted down. Are there going to be same sex guards to pat people down? Who's whatching the stuff? What happens when bias comes into play? What happens when the backlog makes people who were not notified of this miss bookings?

And I'm sorry, but MNSSHP without costumes is ridiculous.

I must be in the minority because I think this is a great idea. I'd rather spend an extra minute or two and walk through the detector than to think that something may happen when we're at one of the parks.

It's the world we live in today - I get to experience this first-hand tomorrow when we arrive for our vacation. I was involved with an active shooter scare on Tuesday night at my college campus during finals. So really - bring this one. Give me peace of mind because I'm still a bit shaken after that craziness.

I'm sorry you had to endure that. Finals are hard enough, as it is!

Wow, you don't give law enforcement enough credit. They can tell difference between a Pirates gun and a real one.

Hmm, I actually respect law enforcement. That's why I'm taking their lead and trusting these new security measures. Security measures across Universal, Sea World and WDW. That's not a coincidence. I believe they were advised to do this.

You honestly think WDW is just being fun suckers and none of these things are being advised by law enforcement? If so, we can agree to disagree then.

See, I don't know that a kid WAS stopped. People can write anything, and tell any kind of story they like. Sometimes they're genuinely mistaken in what they thought they saw, sometimes they're just trying to stir up a bit of excitement.

If I start hearing multiple stories of kids being told not to enter with their light sabers, from multiple sources... then I'll start to believe it. At which point, I'll be expecting some sort of official statement from Disney, since turning people away for carrying products they sell IN their parks would require some explanation.

One comment on a Facebook post? Not so much. (And if it was a single, weird, misapplication of policy by an overly enthusiastic cast member, then I would expect the FB poster to continue with how they complained to guest services and were compensated with free FPs and given assurances the rogue cast member would be retrained.)

I hear you about doubting things on the internet, my point was, if it is true, its inconsistent. That's all.

So, they are going to do increased screening at the park entrances. What about the buses picking up at the resorts and Downtown Disney? What about the people who deliver food and merchandise into the parks every single day? Are these going to have increased screening? The ferry boat, the hotels, the parking lots? Just consider how open Disney World is. I will not feel safer if they are only screening every day people entering the parks. And no costumes at the Halloween Party for adults? Adults make up the majority of people a the party. This is a deal breaker for us (4 adults). Why would I pay around $70 each to go to a party where I can walk around in my normal street clothes? What fun is that? I can understand the no face mask thing, but I have seen many party goes with some rally gorgeous costumes, not notably the 20 plus adults walking around as ancient Romans in their flowing robes.

Here now. Confirmed one metal detector at Epcot International Gateway. What a difference a day makes. Stood in checkout line with a kid buying a Star Wars gun last night at MK.

Fear, fear and more fear. The terrorists have truly won already.

Sorry, but the no toy guns thing is just stupid. Bubble guns, really? Any officer who cannot tell a bubble gun from a real one shouldn't be doing the job. All toy guns sold in the parks, and most sold elsewhere have a bright orange tip that mark them as a toy, not to mention the fact that anyone who has ever handled a real gun should be able to tell the difference on sight very quickly. it's more about following the right politically correct trend of the moment than really about security.

I don't think they ARE being recommended by anyone in law enforcement. I highly doubt the police or FBI told them to stop selling toy guns and install metal detectors that only a fraction of guests will actually go through. It's the latest bandwagon to jump on. A CYA measure so that if anything happens they can say "but we added security".

I think the costume thing is a little silly because anyone on any day can wear loose clothing and just hide something underneath. And if you do wear loose clothing and get selected for the metal detector, I can see the discrimination lawsuits now. Especially if women who wear the traditional hijab get pulled aside into the metal detector - can you imagine the public outcries of discrimination?

1. And you know this how?

2. Just what I always wanted at a theme park - shoot out at the OK Corral.

And if the metal detectors are keeping out the good guys with guns, then how are they not keeping out the bad guys with guns?
Ask any of your friends who are cops.

2- Hasn't happened in 50~ years. You fears are completely unfounded and 5 decades prove you wrong.

Lastly, bad guys don't care about getting caught, especially ones on a suicide attack. Joe Police officer may rather leave his gun at home and risk being caught in a terror attack unarmed vs getting caught and banned and having to explain to his young children how Disney hates cops and they can't go to parks any more because they've been black listed.

It honestly boggles my mind how some people can think a cop in a magic costume (uniform) with a gun is fine. Put him in street clothes and with his family and some how he/she is now a risky threat to be treated like a criminal/terrorist.

There is no logic behind such a position, only irrational and emotional based paranoia.

Also, there are dozens of ways to enter the parks without going through the security lines, again, if the good guys get caught, they get banned. The bad guys get caught? They just start shooting sooner.

Has this started yet? If so, can anyone report on how much it delayed you getting into the parks? I'm not against them doing this, but it seems like it will create huge bottlenecks since they are going into the most crowded time of year.

Okay, so my question is where did people make the leap from "Costumes may not be worn by Guests ages 14 or older" to adults being banned from wearing costumes during MNSSHP events? Other than pure conjecture by the OP, I have not see/read anything anywhere that Disney has confirmed that this policy will apply to adults at MNSSHP. Adults were previously banned from wearing costumes to the parks. This is not a new policy. MNSSHP was an exception to this policy, and so far, I have not read anything that indicates this will change.

Can anyone post credible sources that indicate Disney has confirmed adults will not be allowed to wear costumes to MNSSHP? Or are we just going to continue fanning the flames of viral rumors?

Fear, fear and more fear. The terrorists have truly won already.

Not being afraid of terrorists has never stopped them from doing something horrific. I'm tired of being told it's not okay to be worried about this kind of thing because "the terrorists win." If some tangible measures could help prevent an event, I'm all for it. And with that, I'm out! :)

i am curious as well, my disney trips are halloween fun trips cause I love to dress up. I can't see them banning costumes at parties why would people pay $100 for a ticket fo ra halloween party and not be able to treat it as halloween? I am hoping we get some feedback from disney.
