As part of the boards upgrade we have installed a new search system! This search system was developed by a programmer named Floren Munteanu and it seems to be better than the regular Vbulletin search AND it doesn't kill the servers.

We are in the testing phase, so if you see any issues please post them on the sticky on the tech support board!

WhooooooooHoooooooooooo!! Thanks for the update Doc! :cheer2:

Thanks! Anythings got to be better then that webtracker(?). I gave up on that and just used google.

So far, everything looks great. You can click on a username and then choose "Find Posts by" from the drop down box to start the search or use the "Search" button from the toolbar. This morning it's really running well and the server is handling the load easily. It will be interesting to see what happens this afternoon when we have 3000+ posters online - trying to use search all at the same time! ;)

Is it now possible to do a text string exact search or searches with Boolean operators?

Thanks!

OH YES IT IS!!! Once the testing is over I'll try to post some stuff about the capabilities.

You can search with the following operators:
  • mickey - regular keyword search
  • mickey mouse - equivalent to mickey + mouse, or mickey AND mouse
  • mickey OR mouse - will return results from both or either keywords
  • mickey NOT mouse - you can also use mickey -mouse, will return results for mickey but not mouse
  • mi* - will return results that start with mi, in title only
  • *ey - will return results that end with ey, in title only
  • *ck* - will return results that contain ck, in title only

Note: The new search have embedded the morphological root of the word. That means it is a lot more flexible, related to search results. For example, if I search for "cat", it will return results for "cat" and "cats".
