New Rumor

Just heard a rumor that the top two floors of the main part of the Animal Kingdom Lodge might become DVC accommodations.

Dont have any more info....but I'll keep you posted.

Interesting... there have been past rumors about DVC expanding into AKL. However, I highly doubt it. The top floor of AKL is concierge, where would it go? Not to mention that concierge also encompasses rooms from floor four. It'd be a cool DVC resort though!

This rumor has been around for awhile in various forms. The rumor usually consists of either current rooms/floors given to DVC or a new wing (the new wing scenario includes speculation that items such as water and sewage piping and electrical for the new wing were put in place at the time of original construction).

Speculation is also that AKL was designated as a future DVC resort from the very beginning (hence the ability of the AKL to opt out of the pool hopping policy).

My best guess (stress the word guess) - this will be the next WDW DVC resort after the CRV (another rumor). If my guess is correct though, it is probably still years away.

1. They would not convert the concierge floors.
2. Believe it when I see it.

So, would this occur before the Contemporary North Wing conversion? Before the Eagle Pines/Ospry Ridge DVC location?

When I was at AKL in June I heard rumors that DVC was being considered (even that 'suits' had been out in helicopters 'surveying'), but in a separate building opposite AKL - with it's own savannah - what I was hearing made me think it would be like completing a circle around Arusha Savanah. Also was told that there would be a refurb of the 5th and 6th floor concierge rooms and the lounge towards the end of the year. Some posters are reporting only being able to book 'standard' CL rooms in January instead of deluxe - so maybe they're going to use the 4th floor for CL while they renovate the higher floors. I agree, can't imagine them doing away with CL at AKL - I understand they book out at 90% year round, thanks to lots of FL visitors. If they build AKL DVC - I am so buying more points :thumbsup2 - but my guess is it's years away. :smooth:

Which comes first, The Contemporary DVC or the AKL DVC? Maybe the two resorts will be .......... :confused3

It does seem that the MK area would naturally be a priority over AKL, regardless of how popular the AKL is. I still belive that new construction, probably at the STOL, is the most likely scenario.

The Disney Vacation Club is taking the top floors of the AK Lodge and building another building.

Recently (I mean yesterday), You can see a construction fence being put up around the Theater at Saratoga Springs. DVC is taking the theater and gutting the inside so that they can but four 2 bedrooms models in there. So DVC will be showing models of the rooms that will be at the AK lodge and the Cont on tour. Their Preview Center will stay at SSR, but will show 4 different resorts in the theater, maybe not all at first, but eventually.

Don't believe anything you hear about new DVC digs. About 3 months ago, I spoke to a CM who has been with DVC since it's inception, and she said that she giggles when folks approach her and ask where the new DVC resort will be, and begin to spout off to her about everything from a new Contemporary Wing to the above mentioned AKL story. She said ignore it all until Disney actually makes a formal announcement. She said that DVC has more rampant rumors then any other Disney company project. So, we just wait now, probably until the end of this year when they get a little closer to selling out SSR, to hear what is actually going to take place.

I Was Just At Ssr....you Can See The Construction Wall At The Theater!!!!! I'm Telling You It Is True. She Has To Say That Stuff!!!!

So, here are construction walls at the Theater, how does that equate to a new DVC resort? Aren't there lots of other logical reasons for the construction walls?

What ever happened to the rampant rumors of a west coast DVC?

There have been rumors for ages about DVC and there probably always will be. I can't imagine there are huge expansion plans, the suites have to be better paying than DVC. As for construction walls - there are always plenty of reasons for those...

If you check out the DVC boards, there are building permits posted for AKL through Disney Vacation Development (DVC). It looks like this isn't just speculation/rumor anymore.

There are also permits posted about the Disney Cinema building at SSR. It is listed as being renovated for "models"... but models of what is still the question. They could simply be building SSR models so they can use the old models for guests. They could also be building CDVC models and/or VAKL models, or a combination of all the above.

However, the permit for the AKL is very interesting. I read it and it lists Disney Vacation Development as being the "owner" and commencing with the remodeling of 3 bays on the 5th floor of the AKL for the purpose of building models... and, as others have stated... what better place to build a model of the proposed VAKL? You just can't duplicate that view, which will be a huge selling feature!

I can definately see them selling both CDVC and VAKL at the same time. Prime and popular locations, smaller resorts... it won't take long to sell both of those out and they can boost the bottom line profits pretty quick and then focus on the next project (Eagle Pines, DVC in CA, etc)...!

We went to WDW yesterday after dropping DS off at MCO. Went over to SSR. There was a cyclone fence around the theatre, {not the usual plywood walls, so you could see exactly what was going on} and construction vehicles out back. All of the seats were taken out of the theatre and lined up outside. We went into the sales center, and without actually saying where it was {read Contemporary DVC resort} I was told that they were going to use the building for "new resort" models. Stay tuned.........

They have never offered a choice of 2 different resorts at the same time on WDW property, have they?

I think that BWV was still available when VWL opened...

But this almost makes me think that they will belaunched side-by-side. That's something different, don't you think? If I were a salesman, I would love that...

We've heard rumblings about this from a friend who is a CM and a DVC member. However, his rumblings always focus on the fact many people WANT AK to offer DVC but that Disney aren't as keen on the idea.
