New Ruler of ALL things Photo Contest?!

Ok,, I have made my official resignation announcement, but I have to be honest. The thought of no more contests is something I just don't want to face!! I have gotten offers from some of you to help out a little, and I appreciate that so much. My biggest concern is the confusion of having more than one person run the contest. It's confusing enough for one person, believe me!! ;) I have had one offer from someone who would be willing to take it over and run it for a year or two, like I did, which to be honest sounds a bit more appealing. However, this person doesn't want to step on any toes, and only wants to take it over if no one else is interested in doing so on a full time basis. So my question to all of you is..... Is there anyone else here interested in taking over the contests on a more permanent basis? If so please let me know, so that we can start making those transitions over the next 3.5 weeks.

If you have a volunter, then I would vote with letting them take it over... If they find it unweildy then they can ask for help as needed.
 
That person wants to do it for a year or two, and you are asking if anyone want to take it over on a more permanent basis?

This is the internet, a year or two is as permanent as things get!
 

Believe me .... I know how permanent a year or two is .... and I think this person who is volunteering will do a wonderful job. When I made the comment of a more permanent basis I was talking about more permanent than those that offered to do a few weeks here and there!! As I said before the person that has offered has stated that they don't want to step on any toes ..... so I am putting it out there that if anyone else wants to take over to let me know now.... if not I will soon be naming my "successor" and preparing them to take over in January!!

I think the offers to "help" were just a way of attempting to keep the contests going. I'm sure most, if not all, would agree that a "permanent" person (even if it's only for a year or two) is preferable.

good, i enjoy the contests but know so little about computers...well i sure can't help but thanks to who ever is willing to.

however can we all get a " ruler of all ( fill in the blank)" title? Can i be "ruler of all things out of focus"? i have lots of experience in that area:)

I think one person with a standard backup or two that know how it is running and the photo site and passwords.

I think I may have enough time to do it but could not guarantee that I would be available for 52 weekends straight. Like this weekend we will be at WDW and I am not sure I could find the time. If some disers don't know, I remember at least one contest you ran while you were on vacation.

That is where a team of two people would help. Maybe even switch regularly every four weeks for some relief.

Voting for someone on this board would be a pleasant change compared with the lousy politicians I usually end up voting for. I say if you've got a volunteer that you're happy with, hand off the baton. Well, unless it is someone that is struggling to resist criticizing my out-of-focus pictures.
 
This is great news Dana. You do such a great job and we can tell how much work you put into it. Thank you and thanks who ever stepped up to the plate. you have made us all so happy.:love:
 
Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into these contests Dana!! It's greatly appreciated! :) And I say go with the mystery volunteer also.

by the way... I did run the contest while on vacation. We went to DisneyLand, were home for 3 days in which I got the contest together, then we left for a week in Disney World!! That was definately interesting!!

HA- I did not really mean to generate a big mystery here, but I did PM Dana yesterday and say I think I would enjoy hosting it for a year or two. So if no one has any objection I guess I will plan on getting started with it right after the first of the year. Thanks again to Dana who has done such a fantastic job with it- I will make every effort to carry on as well. :)

unless of course the mystery volunteer turns out to be someone else, then I'd have to wait until after the photo contest election debates, to make my decision....:cool1:
 
HA- I did not really mean to generate a big mystery here, but I did PM Dana yesterday and say I think I would enjoy hosting it for a year or two. So if no one has any objection I guess I will plan on getting started with it right after the first of the year. Thanks again to Dana who has done such a fantastic job with it- I will make every effort to carry on as well. :)

I'd be interested in doing it as well. Using the boards RSS capabilities, I think I can automate the process of putting the contests together, making it less time consuming to manage. Perhaps more can be automated as well.

I'd also like to consider opening up the topic nominating process a bit more. Perhaps we could have periodic contests to pick topics and build up list to work from for a while that way. The level of friendly participation on this board is one of it's best attributes I think.

If Gdad wants to do it, thats fine but I'll throw my hat in the ring as well. I agree that a primary and a backup is a good idea as well.

Hmmm....do we need a photo contest contest thread? Everyone submits their plan for how they will manage the contest and we vote? :rotfl:

I really appreciate the willingness by people to take on this role. It sounds like a lot of work and I'm glad that Andromeda has done it and that we have others willing to take it on. To be perfectly clear on my position, I'll quote General Sherman - "If drafted, I will not run; if nominated, I will not accept; if elected, I will not serve."

My inclination is to let Andromeda decide.

Well- I don't really know how to do any of that stuff. I was just going to run it pretty much as before. If you want it I really don't mind- I just volunteered because I did not want to see the contest go away. :confused3
