I noticed that POR has new room categories that say "5th sleeper" (i.e.
Garden View - 5th Sleeper, Standard View - 5th Sleeper), but I'm a little confused because those say "sleeps up to 4 adults" while the "regular" room categories (that don't say 5th Sleeper) say sleeps up to 5 adults.

5th Sleeper room options are also more expensive.

But if I try to book for 5 people, it gives me the option of either a "regular" Garden View room OR a Garden View - 5th Sleeper.

What am I missing here?

I just noticed that too, I'm looking at Caribbean Beach and getting the same thing. Also, no rooms have any availability at any dates I'm checking; a few dates have a couple of rooms, like pool or water view, but no standard rooms are available on any date I check from April 2019 - Dec 2019. What am I doing wrong?

I was looking at ASMo and had the same issue. Could only book a preferred room, not a standard room.

At wilderness lodge they have added a nature fireworks view.....
I have tried every month to book this and it is unavailable for everyone of them.. Why would they have a new category and it not be available?

The DVC website is in the process of adding "connecting studios" at Poly as a separate booking category. They will require the same number of points as 2 studios booked separately.

Disney's website does not actually show every available room on a given date; it has a very complicated algorithm for what room types are offered when. I noticed that adding a day at the start or end can sometimes increase availability even though that room is obviously available for the shorter stay if it is available for the longer one. Maybe try tinkering with length of stay?

Room refurbishments can also affect availability.

I messed with it for a bit, changing it from Fri-Thu, Fri-Fri, Sat-Sun, etc., and the availability did change, but I never found a standard room available. I'm done messing with it for now, but I just thought it was odd, and annoying! haha.

I found the same to be true for my dates in may. I could only book preferred or a king room.

I would check with WDW, but we stayed at POR. There was a twin-size murphy-bed in the room. When it was up, it was a cushioned bench w/drawers underneath. This was in a room that had 2 queen beds, so in our case, the room did have a spot for a 5th sleeper. I'm not sure how many of their rooms were like this, as we didn't even request it, but I do know that one of my teens loved sleeping there. I would check w/WDW to see if this is what they are calling the 5th sleeper.

Also, even now you can only book 499 days out. So November and December are not bookable.

I noticed the same thing with my Jan. 2019 dates. No standard rooms available at Beach CLub and no 2 room villas!

Disney only own about 3-4% of BCV, so the number of villas they have to offer for cash guests tends to be light. And January 2019 has been open for room-only reservations for a long time, and what inventory that would be cash would have been deposited in February.

I came to the boards today to post about this very thing. I think the Disney website is still working the kinks out of these new
categories. I'm assuming the room occupancy will be updated so that "-5th sleeper" is 5 and the others are 4. I'm not looking to book anytime soon (just price comparing) but if I were I would plan on calling so that the CM can (hopefully) get it right.

My understanding is that the 5th sleeper will guarantee guests a room with the pull down bed, where the standard rooms may have it but it is not guaranteed. You just pay slightly more for the guarantee of the pull down bed.

The only thing your missing is the fact Disney figured out a way to charge more $ for the same room.
It's really funny to me because it's as if Disney is seriously trying to get me NOT to stay on site. They keep inventing new things that make it just not worth it. I want to say: Disney, it's ok. You succeeded. I won't stay on site again. You had me at "parking fees."

I also noticed that I am booked for a BWV Garden/Pool view but that isn't a listed option online anymore.

So I could book a 5th sleeper room for my family of 4 and be guaranteed room with a pull down?
