We will be coming from the north and heading to WL in May. Should we take this way?

New route to Disney opens tomorrow

When the section of the new Western Beltway opened from Winter Garden to U.S. 192 last December (link), we noted that Disney would be opening a new road in the spring that connected the highway to Buena Vista Drive. The 2.5-mile Western Way, which we first reported on back in January of 2004 (link), opens tomorrow. Travelers approaching Walt Disney World from the north via Interstate 75 and Florida's Turnpike will be able to pick up the Western Beltway at an interchange near State Road 50 in Winter Garden and travel south to the new interchange at Western Way, completely bypassing U.S. 192 and Interstate 4. The new road heads east and then south and meets West Buena Vista Drive near Blizzard Beach and Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Pretty Sure The Exit On The Florida Turnpike Is 267A Going South On SR 429. Saves About 10 Miles Vs I-4 To Osceola, Also Avoiding US 192 Traffic If You Come Down US 27.

If you are coming from the I-75/FL Tpke, use it. If you are coming from I-95/I-4 it's out of the way and not a time saver.

Anyone have any information about the toll amounts? We normally come I-75 to FL Turnpike to I-4. There is a $2.50 and a $.50 toll. How will this compare?

Thanks!

Does anyone know of any maps showing the new road?

I've seen multiple newspaper articles...but, can't seem to find at least a rough draft showing where the road will be.

Speed :teleport:

I am flying into MCO on Thursday (4/6) and driving to Daytona Beach for a mediation on Friday. After the mediation, I have to drive to just north of Tampa to pick up my son and then drive down to Sarasota to help my parents fly back north (mother just had a stroke). The drive from Daytona to Tampa is going to be a tough one on a late Friday afternoon on the start of the Easter break. Does anyone know if this new road will benefit me? I wasn't able to find it on any on-line maps. I am for anything that will expedite my arrival at my sister's. TIA!

THE TOLL IS 1.OO ON SR 429 IF THE NEW ENTRANCE IS OPEN. IF IT IS STILL CLOSED THEN YOU WOULD HAVE TO PAY ANOTHER 1.00 TOLL AND THEN GET OFF AT US 192, THEN GO EAST TO WORLD DRIVE. THE DISTANCE FROM THE TURNPIKE TO US 192. WHICH COMES OUT CLOSE TO THE PUBLIX, IS 14 MILES. THE NEW ENTRANCE IS MAYBE 2 OR 3 MILES NORTH OF US 192. SURE HOPE THE NEW ENTRANCE IS OPEN BEFORE WE HEAD TO WDW.

Ok, Hwy 429 has 3 main dollar toll plazas, (one is at the Hwy 192 exit/entrance, one is south of Hwy 535/Fla Turnpike and one is near US Hwy 441 in Apopka). The Disney Western Way Exit does not have a Toll but the Exit does sits between the Hwy 192 and Hwy 535 main toll plazas which means you will have to pay a dollar toll before you reach Western Way Disney exit.

Also upon getting on Western Way there is another road which might get some folks confused, this road is called Bear Island Road which is a Service road that goes between the back entrance to Disney's Animal Kingdom, the Tree Farm Nursery, the waste water treatment plant and the Car Care Center outside of the MK Parking area, you will not be able to get to these areas because they have a Gate much like what is use at the Disney Resorts to keep Traffic out of these areas. Western Way then goes on to Buena Vista Drive near the Blizzard Beach and Coronado Springs Resort.

Western way is useful only for folks coming from the northwest or from due north, for example southbound on Florida's Turnpike. Western Way is the new total alternative to Rte. 27.

Daytona to Tampa, you could try getting off the dreaded I-4 onto toll road 417 before reaching Orlando. You will swing down under the airport and will end up back on I-4 south of WDW.

Coming up from Tampa on I-4 skip the 429 exit (when it opens) and then take the World Drive Disney World exit to get you right into WDW.

One picture I saw somewhere on these boards showed a toll booth to get off at Western Way if you are coming south. I might add that without a booth there gobs of traffic will take that exit and find their to World Drive to skip the next one dollar booth a mile further on 429 before 192.

It will not help you at all.

One thing to pay attention to--if you do not have SUNPASS/E-PASS do NOT get into the lanes identified as Sunpass/E-Pass ONLY. These lanes are unattended and you won't be able to get the gate to rise and if anyone is behind you you can't back up to get to another lane. There is a fine for being in the Sunpass lane without having a Sunpass transponder, and FHP is starting to crack down.

This goes for all Florida toll roads.

I'm heading out in 7 days and have heard a fair amount about this new road but I'm lost as to what to do. We are staying at a villa just off highway 27 between 192 and the I-4 and I can't decide which way to go. Should I head down to the I-4 and take this route into Disney or head up to the 192 and take this way. Will this new road make it a faster trip to take the 192 into Disney. Both routes are about the same distance to the parks but I'm leaning more to heading north to the 192 to try and avoid the congestion on the I4 first thing in the morning. Any help from someone with experience on these roads as to which route would be better would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

429 is no where near I-4, and it would be many miles and a lot of traffic out of your way. Just take 27 to 192 and head east to WDW. 429 isn't going to do you any good until it opens all the way to I-4 next year sometime.

At this point, ONLY people driving from point west and NW using the Florida Tpke will make use of this road.
