new ride?

I saw on a special about epcot getting a new ride that resembles the one in disneyland, soaring over california. Has it opened yet, if not, when will it open and where is it in epcot? Thanks for any info you can give me.

It will indeed be Soarin' Over California... It'll just be renamed "Soarin'" and it'll open in May 2005.

The ride is in the LAND. The entrance to the ride is were "Food Rocks" used to be. The LAND is to be closed this winter - Jan 2 thru March 31?? (although you would think they would try to open it a little earlier for Easter). The opening date for Soaring is not yet set, but will probably be before May 5 - the Disneyland anniversary date.

Saw a picture of the ride at DL. It is supposed to be a hang glider experience. Ride seats look to be about 8-12 in a straight row that carries you up, up and away into the ride (think of Peter Pan's Flight except on a much larger scale). There are 360 degree movie screens that show the scenes that you are "Soarin" over. I believe I read that it will be the same as the DL ride so the scenes will be CA. Some say it is one of the best ride experiences in DL. Hope I have this right. Someone that has been to DL recently should be able to elaborate more.

It's so cool! You feel like you are hang-gliding through the air and you pass over various places... For example, an orange grove and you smell the oranges! Don't want to give too much away but I was very excited to hear it's opening in EPCOT - just hope it's open last week of April when we are there. I really enjoyed it when I was on business in CA and managed a side trip to Cal. Adventure.

The official openning is scheduled for 05/05/05, the 50th DL celebration. I'm sure there will probably be soft opennings prior to the official date. Also MGM's stunt show is set to open this date too. See my countdown and you'll see I'll be there!

Soarin is awesome!!!! The theming will be different than Calif so that the CA movie will work in FL.

"Soaring" is AWESOME! Our whole family (DH, DS8 & DS4 at the time) voted this as one of the best attractions we have ever been on (and we have been on a lot of rides!) It is such a realistic hang- gliding experience that involves sight, hearing, smell, and the feeling of the wind rushing around you.

We are SO excited that they are bringing it to WDW!

I will miss seeing the Land in January, but I cannot wait for Soarin!

I wonder if they will have a soft opening sometime during my April 13-20 trip?

We rode Soarin' in CA the May after DCA opened.
It was VERY good. I am looking forward to FL's version. ALthough it would be better if they revamped it to fit FL, and not just duplicate the CA film.
After Dinoland in AK and Stitch in MK you would think they may learn.
No matter how good it is, there will be critics because of the same film being shown.

While we do love the ride and think that it's awesome, I agree that they should have re-tuned it for Florida. That was part of the excitement, being on vacation in California and "soaring" over California.

I know it keeps the cost down, but new footage would have really made the attraction more special and more in keeping with WDW and not DL!

Oh well- trust me it is still very cool!
