I saw this over on the Resorts Board and I thought that I would share it over here since many posters do laundry while they are in Disney.

In a nutshell:
  • Disney has installed a new payment system where you use a CC to pay for washers and dryers. There are still a limited number of machines that still accept coins as well. However, if you don't want to be waiting for those few coin-operated machines to free up, you're going to need some plastic to pay! The good news is that you no longer need to pack rolls of quarters for the machines.
  • You cannot use your Magic Band to pay.
  • The machines are wi-fi connected and you can check to see how much time is left on your machine by checking the company's website. You can also see how many machines are in use and how many are available before you lug your laundry to the facility.
  • You can even opt to receive a text when your machine is finished.

Now if they would only fold the clothes and deliver them to your room!

I didn't realize that machine availability was such an issue! Stayed at CBR last fall and had my pick of a whole laundry room of machines and dryers that looked like they could die at any time. New machines are a good addition, not too keen on the credit card thing. I'd rather use my band or carry a small amount of cash/quarters, but oh well.

I was so happy to be right next to the laundry and quiet pool. We didn't pack well and I ended up washing clothes every other day because we didn't have many clothing items that stood up to the heat and humidity. Can't believe I was actually relieved to do laundry on vacation!

When we went last summer and stayed at BLT it was a heaven send having in room laundry.

We took my Girl Scout troop and did at least one full load of darks each day. Every night we would do a load. So much better than folding up and packing home dirty stinky sweaty clothes. All the girls went home with clean laundry to which our parents thanked us.

As for a family trip, I really only have tried doing laundry if we're staying more than 4 nights. It has worked just fine in the past just doing one load per day. Almost always darks, it would take us a few days to use up enough lights and reds to do a separate load of each of those.

But, I'd have to think. Do you have to run your card each time you want to start a machine ? How many swipes of a credit card at a laundry center X miles from home until your credit card company doesn't let it go through, and you've already got your clothes in the machine ?

I love the idea of wi-fi connectivity, so I can relax by the pool without worrying about the laundry sitting in a stopped machine.

It was really slick when we used it last month. Probably the most efficient thing Disney has done in a long time!!

You swipe your card, and it shows you the available machines and you choose which ones you are going to use. Then you do the same for dryers. Logon to the laundry website and it will show you how many minutes your cycles have, too. Very nice!!

We don't usually do laundry on our trips, but I have to admit those changes would make me more inclined to do so.

Wondering if a prepaid Visa card would work too? That way you wouldn't have to worry about your cc company not allowing the charges.

Great to hear! The laundry rooms at Art of A get very busy by the Great Big Pool (Nemo one). Next stay we are at Cars, I am hoping that laundry room is less packed. I ended up doing ours at midnight once.

This is AWESOME!! We go for two weeks and the thought of not having to schlep the laundry over only to find out there are no washers available will be great. Also, the ability to check on how much time is left instead of playing the guessing game running back and forth and then just having to sit there and wait it out will be perfect. We stay DVC so the $$ aspect of it vs the Charge/Debit part of it doesn't come into play for us. Although we did pretty much pay for 50 years of vacations up front so I'm not fooling myself by thinking my laundry is anywhere near FREE :P.
