It's the same Holiday Inn that was in Downtown Disney, they just did it over.

This hotel has been closed since the hurricanes in 2004. They are finally reopening.

I saw something to indicate that the hotel won't be re-opening during the Spring - I wish that I could cite the source but I don't remember where I saw that recently. At any rate, apparently they've had construction delays that have pushed out the re-opening date.
Currently, the hotel is not accepting reservations for 2009.

Could it be that as of mid December there was NO lobby! Seriously I drove by and there was a big "hole" where there should be a lobby.

However, it does appear that they have FINALLY started doing SOMETHING! Of course they do that just about the time the economy takes a dive so that may slow them back down.

They are a LONG way from being close to opening!

I'm not surpised by any of that. I walked by the hotel several times when we were in the area in June and the place looked pretty bad then - and no work on it during that week. I think that the primary construction of the building was cinder block and they can put those type of buildings back together pretty quickly. However, I agree that it'll take a long time to get back into operation - the building inspection process alone can take seemingly forever for a re-build in central Florida.
