new/redesigned iPods

going to pick up DW an 8 gig touch this weekend. The price drop is a great thing! I just wish they would put the camera in them! She lives to take pics on her phone. This is the next best thing to an iPhone for her. At least untill contract time.

If you can, get the 16 gig Touch. It's $70 more than the 8 gig, but the added storage capacity is definitely worth the added cost. And I guarantee, at some point, she is going to want to put movies or TV shows on it which take up a lot of space. :)

That green nano seems to be calling my name... my two year old 2gb nano just isn't cutting it any more... Now the 8gb is the same price as what I paid two years ago! Sigh, that's always how it goes with electronics.

lucky you, I paid $200 for my black 2 Gig Nano. $50 bucks for a white refurb one from apple 2 valentines ago for my DW ($100-$50 because it didn't work and I looked like a chump on VT day. Kudos to apple for making it right)

I paid $190 for my Ipod touch after some coupon games at a local retailer.

Still use the nano more. nice and light goes in my pocket while I'm making dinner, cleaning, mowing the lawn, etc...

I don't think I'll be buying another one anytime soon. Maybe an Iphone, but I'd want a used one I could use on T-mo, not att.

You are right Simon. But I'm cheap :). I was about to order her a refurb touch for $199. But an extra $30 for the latest, no big deal. A $100 over the original plan, I don't know about that. LOL

Reverting back to the shape of the 2nd gen. Nano, the new Nano is lighter, thinner, and comes in 9 different colors.

My 3rd gen. nano is slightly larger than my Disney Visa Card, and thin and light enough to stick in my pocket and forget it's there. I like the new colors, but not enough to replace it for a sideways picture.

The coolest feature (in my opinion) is the "shake to shuffle" feature where, if you would like to shuffle your songs, simply shake your iPod and it will automatically go into shuffle mode thanks to the accelerometer.

Another great feature- it will shuffle in my pocket at will when I move around? Hope that feature is better than it sounds. If I ever decide to work out, I'd want to do it with my Ipod in my ears, but it would be shuffling?

I just don't get this one. :confused3

On all previous iPods there is a 'hold' switch on the top or bottom that you can toggle to lock and unlock your iPod so if you have it in your pocket or something, the song (or podcast!) won't change randomly. This is the same with the new Nano where, if you don't want the shake-to-shuffle feature to activate, you can just switch it to hold or lock.

I was watching a CNET review of the Nano yesterday on Youtube, and it looks like you have to shake the iPod pretty vigorously to activate the shuffle feature, so I don't think you are at much of a risk of it shuffling while in your pocket if it is unlocked.

Thanks for the info! I will look for that review. My two DDs want the new ones now.

This is the same question I had, what about the joggers, would it shuffle continuously as we pound the pavement? Glad to hear it possibly won't.

I like the newer design as I am a fan of the 2nd gen. I don't care for the 3rd gen because I am not trying to watch something that small anyway.

However, this now means that I have to wait for iskin to come out with skins that will fit it so I can get those. Sigh

Honestly, the shake to shuffel sounds rediculas. Ok, im mowing the lawn, hit a bump and am shuiffeled. Someones running, and shuffle non stop....

None the less, im planning on getting the NANO, to put movies on, as my current nano, while imn perfect condition, is to full lol

This thread has been helpful. :guilty: me left iPod on plane so have to replace ... had a 30GB classic video 5th generation one.

So, I just won an itouch last week through chat. They ordered it for me through the Apple store and it was shipped to me. Had I won this week, I would have gotten the new design? I feel kind of bad, the price dropped.

did you already receive it?
there isn't much difference between the old and new..
the major difference is the new one has a built in speaker...(you can hear it without earphones)...
does yours have a built in speaker? if so, it's the new one...

Love the new iPods. If I didn't have an iPhone, I'd be tempted by the iTouch.

It came on Monday. No, it does not have a built in speaker or the volume on the side.

according to DS (i asked him, as i'm clueless) there's really not much difference between the old and new ipod touch..
DS has an old one (the 16GB, which i bought for him in november).....he says it does everything the new one does....

i even offered him a new one (my mom would bring it when she visits), but he turned it down....i offered it to him repeatedly and he said no...
so i guess he's not lying when he says the old one has pretty much everything the new one has....other than the built in speaker...

The shuffle n shake doesn't make sense to me. Does it mean that if Im dancing around with it and it shakes, it will bump me to the next song?

Don't download the Magic Kingdom interactive map. It sure isn't worth .99 cents
The map is just a picture of the park map and when you go to find where rides are it has each lands sites listed in the wrong land. Frontierland has Toontown rides and Toontown has Main streets attractions, ect. :confused3

I downloaded it too thinking there would be up-to-the-minute wait time and Fastpass time info, but to my disappointment it is nothing more than a map of the MK with markers on attractions and dining locations giving very vague info about the type of attraction or dining location... they have the technology to put in wait time info (etc.) so I can't really see why something like that hasn't been done. :confused3

I upgraded my 1st gen. iPod Touch to the 2.1 software this evening and I honestly cannot see any reason to spend another $300 to get a new one. Aside for the speaker and external volume controls, both iPods are the same feature wise. As to why Apple is calling this a completely new device is beyond me... :sad2:

~Simon :)

I love the new nano....I have a gen 2 nano, so am thinking about upgraing to the new 8gb one. The colors are much better. The shake feature is cool too (btw it won't jump ahead if you are jogging or dancing, you can use the lock button) I also like the fact that the screen will flip the iamge if you turn it sideways.

Have you all seen the new glasses you can get to hook to your ipod to watch videos?? They are phenomenal.
